Vehicle Detail
History: My body guy, Brian, had already done a superb restoration of my Corvette. I was looking for a big summer car to drive to the grocery store, go on vacation, or take to car shows. When Brian and his wife expected their first child, this Impala became available. He had already done a body off restoration of this Impala. Sandblasting, rust proofing, and undercoating. He welded in new floor and trunk bottom panels. The rest of the body appears to be factory original. Then, I went to work replacing all of the brake/fuel lines, suspension, brake system, shocks, springs (Moog Cargo Coils), and more. My goal was to create Dinah Shore's "see the USA in you Chevrolet" ride. I'm pleased with the result: a six passenger convertible with a huge trunk that rides just as smooth at expressway speeds as my Cadillac. At idle, all you hear is air taken in by the quadrajet carburater, and the exhaust from the dual Walker mufflers. Drivetrain: Numbers matching 327 Cubic Inch, 275 Horsepower motor. Forged pistons, and all other state of the industry components- rebuilt by master mechanic Jerry Cruson. Turbo Hydramatic 400 trans remanufactured by Leon's Transmission, Lansing, MI. New four core radiator. Internally regulated alternator. New water pump, motor mounts, starter, and quadrajet carb. Dual exhaust. New universal joints. New brake system. Four new Michelin P215/70R/15 tires on GM rally rims with stock beauty rims, and caps. Electronics: Cassette stereo radio by Custom Auto-sound of Fullerton, CA. An exact fit for the stock dash mounting area. Two front speakers designed by Car's Inc. to go exactly where the original AM speaker would be without modification. Two 6x9 Power-bass 3 way speakers in the rear. The entire sound system was installed by The Electronic Outlet, Lansing, MI. Quartz clock keeps accurate time. Functional after market cigarette lighter. Electronic pump for windshield washer solvent. Original power top motor. New power top switch. New mercury switch hood and trunk lights. Original NOS trunk light. Interior lights, and glove box light. Air Conditioning: Hardware installed both under the hood and in the interior for AC. All duct work. Compressor spins. The correct AC/heater controls are in place. You can decide whether to proceed with an original R-12 system, or upgrade your AC to more modern standards, and with modern technology. The wiring harness needs to be adapted for AC. Cars Inc. offers the correct new harness- if desired. Body: Original 1968 color is: Palomino Ivory- GM card numbers 4895L and 4895D. New white top with glass window supplied by Car's Inc and installed by Bob Sillaway at Auto Interiors. Parchment/black interior. Tilt wheel. Power top works perfectly. Optional headrests. Bumper guards. Rear antenna. Space saver spare with cover and original jack. On most Imapalas, you will note two metal inserts just outside the headlights and above the bumper on each side of the front of the car. In their place, I installed "lantern lights" standard on Caprice models only in 1968. Visit my Google Picasa for more detail and photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/101994590932461277297/Impala?authkey=Gv1sRgCJSw4KPsjenatgE# What's wrong? Small stone chip in the windshield. Most insurance companies fix this for free. Turn indicators do not work. 4 ways work. Should be a minor fix. Attention needed to the underbody with undercoating. Needs a new dash wire harness to operate the new AC unit. Why Sell? I have a 1956 Chevrolet 210 two door that needs my attention now!
