Vehicle Detail

1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. I have owned this car for 20 years, and it was a daily driver for the first five. Since then, it has been registered on and off and had been garaged since 2000. I have moved to a house with no garage, and with two small children it is not a practical ride. This is a solid car that has had a lot done to it. It was in drivable shape when I bought it, but it had a fair amount of shoddy bodywork done to it (fiberglassed floors!). In 2004-2005 I had the following done: new floorpans and body panels welded in place, including the rocker panels, rear quarters, back fenders (inner as well). The welder that did the work did a decent job, but again not show quality. It was more work than he anticipated, and he charged accordingly. I didn't have much $$ left over for the paint job I wanted, but got a budget job done in Bahia Red. It looks OK (judge from the pics) for a driver but it is not a high quality paint job. It does look good from a distance. The engine runs good, but I have not run it regularly since 2005. I threw a battery in two weeks ago and it started without much of a problem. It stalled a few times and it definitely needs a tune up. The mileage shows 47,000 on the odometer but that must be 147,000. I don't know for sure, though. I had the original engine replaced in 1994 with a used VW engine that did not give me any problems. Since the car was basically parked in '96, I have probably only driven 500-1000 miles on this engine. I also installed a new top in the early 1990's that still looks new. No rips or tears. I updated the interior in 2005 with new seat covers, carpet, etc. I installed a Blaupunkt stereo with Infinity speakers. I cleaned up the engine compartment with some chrome and aftermarket pieces. I replaced the stock wheels with mag wheels, and I think they look great. New shocks (adjustable air shocks in the back). New ceramic chromed muffler. The car currently has different size tires on the front and back ( I was experimenting with tire sizes at the time). They are all practically new. I have the other two that match the back tires that will be included (Vredstein tires). The size is 165R15 on those. One thing that will need attention is the electrical system. Everything works but there is a drain on the battery somewhere. I was lazy and just disconnected the battery cable when I wasn't using the car, but this probably needs attention. Also in the past year, the spring behind the brake pedal broke (I guess), causing the brake pedal to fall forward. The brakes work fine, though. This car is not a trailer queen and it has it's share of issues, but a lot of the hard work has been done, and someone should be able to make her roadworthy on short money. Please email me with any questions and I will try to answer ASAP. This car will need to be trailered away, as I would not go for an extended drive since it has been sitting for so long. I'll do what I can to assist the seller with shipping. Finally, there is no title, since this car was bought in Massachusetts in October of 1990, and was exempt at the time. I never bothered to apply for one since I have the original bill of sale. I will also provide the buyer with a bill of sale. I will require a 500.00 dollar deposit via Paypal, money order or bank check once the auction ends, with the rest due upon release of the vehicle. Please keep in mind this vehicle is now 40 years old. There are things here and there that will need attention, but I have tried my best to give an accurate representation of the car. Please email any questions. Thanks and I hope she finds a good home. On Oct-01-10 at 08:57:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi everyone, There has been some concern about the lack of a title for the KG. Please see the info I pulled from the Massachusetts RMV. Please note I have a bill of sale dated October 16, 1990. On Oct-02-10 at 07:28:24 PDT, seller added the following information: By the way, I have three boxes of "stuff" that will also go with the car. Nuts, bolts, bumper parts, hub caps, lenses, a jack, etc. Please see the pics. Also, I received an email about the VIN number. I replied that the original metal tag had been on the old dash that I had long ago replaced. Luckily, I found the tag and have included a picture of that as well.
