Vehicle Detail
Spectacular restored real 442 by world renowned "Thonton" World recognized for their restorations! Exterior Color: Silver Platinum Interior Color: Black Convertible Top: Black Convertible Boot:Black Yes, this is a REAL "442" Convertible! One of only 2,933 442 convertibles produced in 1970! Serial number is: 34467M354671 Mileage: 2,082 Important......Please note that the mileage shown was the mileage on this car a few days ago when it was photographed. I have personally driven this car since these photos were taken over 200 miles...It drives PERFECT! This is the last of the Major Factory Horsepower GM cars! 1971 saw a decline in horsepower, compression and torque and that translates today in a loss of a desirability for most collectors. This is a true investment grade car....your inspection is urged and most welcomed. Most were not produced as Convertibles with a 4 speed manual transmission , factory air conditioning with power steering and power brakes, W-25 ram-air hood in this spectacular color combination! Straight out of the box, these gorgeous muscle car convertibles produced over 360 Horsepower and 500 ft. lbs of neck snapping torque! Top that off with an incredible and fun shifting Muncie 4-Speed Transmission and this is not really your "Daddy's Oldsmobile!" This incredible car was magnificently restored by not only in my opinion, but in Oldsmobile 442 collectors around the world, the most renowned & best restoration house of Oldsmobile 442 's from this era ..."Thornton Restorations." I have personally seen some of their restored 442 Olds Convertibles bring almost $200,000 at top auctions. This car does not have the W30 package...if it did it would be $75,000-$100,000 more $. This car is priced BELOW the market value...so if your interested than pick up the phone and give us a call with any questions...This 442 Convertible will not last very long...it looks and drives that nice and is priced is a lot lower than you might expect! Even in this very tough economic times where real estate has tumbled down a very steep hill....vintage cars...the real ones...the spectacular sought-after cars in this type of condition continue to hold value and in almost every instance, continue to appreciate. So far I have not seen a "Brinks ArmoredTruck at any funerals" not have I witnessed "A luggage rack on a hearse" Why not have fun with your money? ...enjoy your life and know that when you wake up in the AM your dollars are still safe in your garage or warehouse and haven't evaporated into thin air. Car collecting is a family thing...everyone around the world admires and loves these great American Classic Muscle cars....especialy one like this...Monster V-8, 4/speed on the floor and Factory air-conditioning. It has it all! We have sold cars from Australia to Alaska...From China to Saudia Arabia.....From Manhattan to Moscow....and the hobby keeps growing & expanding all the time. Collector car insurance is dirt cheap...about $250 a year for a car like this...full coverage! You do have to keep it in a garage and limit your miles to 2500 a year...other wise you might have to pay a little more. I always try and look for flaws and mention them...but on this car I can't find anything. Maybe you can? Come in person...hire anyone you like to come on your behalf....bring your magnets and magnifying glasses....we will put it up on one of our two lifts....see if you can find anything worth mentioning...we tried and couldn't find anything...maybe you can? It is one of the best paint jobs & body we have seen on a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible...you will love this car & the way it drives. It drives as good as it looks! This is a sure fire 1st place winner...no matter where you show it. We have tried diligently to find any flaws in the paint, body, interior, mechanical or electrical systems and have not been able to locate anything that I we could list as a major problem in the description. I truly believe there is no such thing as a "PERFECT" 40yr. old car and we are not making such a claim. However...this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible is as good as it gets and is as nice as I have seen and I have been in this hobby since 1959. We are urging you to PLEASE come and inspect the car in person, drive it or to hire an expert inspector to do this for you. AGAIN....Please do not ask us to recommend anyone....we want you to select & hire your own inspector. If you wish to schedule an appointment to see this car, please call me at 954-873-6495 or 954-895-7940...I need at least a one day notice. This car is stored at the fantastic Cars Of Dreams Museum in North Palm Beach, Florida. The Museum is private, and is not open to the public and is only open to a few special charity events throughout the year. These events are: 1. Shop with a cop in November done in conjunction with the Palm Beach Sheriff's Association to raise money for underprivileged kids (Next event is November 7th, 2010) 2. Make-a-wish foundation 3. American Cancer Society 4. Hospice of Palm Beach County 5. Darrell Gwynn foundation for kids who are handicapped and need very expensive special wheelchairs 6. Florida Highway Patrol to raise money for FHP officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty...special College fund for their children (1st time for this event and it will be October 17th, 2010) All cars are owned free and clear and we have the title on hand. After you speak with us on the phone, it is possible to have a scanned or faxed copy sent directly to you. We know this is a Platinum investment collectable car....it is foolish to invest your hard earned dollars in clones and fakes....this is a car that you can still drive & enjoy and will increase in value...not decrease in value.....and if you chose to...you could drive it every day. Please don't buy a Museum quality car like this unless you have a garage to store it inside. We do not think this car has ever been left outside. You can look at this car in bright outdoor sunlight or indoors under halogen or florescent light...it still looks flawless...but don't take our word...PLEASE...come and check it out yourself. We don't "play games" We love when a car is inspected prior to meeting the reserve. We have no secrets and are proud of our 100% feedback rating...we have been selling great cars like this for more than 10 years on Ebaymotors.com. Now...let me tell you about this incredible car! Frankly speaking, they just don't come any better than this. If they do....I haven't seen or driven one. I had the pleasure to drive this car...WOW! Absolutely Amazing! Over 200 miles just this past weekend...sometimes with the top down and other times with the top up and the AC blowing cold! Please...do not e-mail us and ask "What is your reserve" just call us and we can discuss money...the car...a trade...or whatever is on your mind. Instead call me at 954-873-6495 or 954-895-7940....even if your calling from Australia,Europe or Japan. We will not e-mail you the reserve but will discuss it with you on the phone! (appointment a day or two in advance is required) Here is some informative information we found on Wikipedia Wikipedia, the free internet encyclopedia. 1970 saw the introduction of the Olds 455 V8 as the standard 442 engine. Magazine ads using an offbeat mad scientist trumpeted "Dr. Olds introduces as large a V-8 as ever bolted into a special-performance production automobile!" Output was 365 hp (272 kW) and 500 lb·ft (680 N·m), with a 370 hp (276 kW) W30 option available. The 365 and 370 hp (272 and 276 kW) power ratings were conservatively underrated at a lower rpm. Both engines are believed by some to produce 410 to 420 hp (306-313 kW). It was the pace car at the Indianapolis 500 race in 1970, along with the Cutlass Supreme. Motor Trend praised the 442, stating that "it's probably the most identifiable super car in the GM house". In addition to the standard 442 offerings, W-30s received a W-25 fiberglass OAI (Outside Air Induction) hood to replace the bumper scoops that were on the 68 and 69 W-30s, an aluminum intake manifold, special camshaft, cylinder heads, distributor, and carburetor. Both 455 Rocket V8s, along with all other Oldsmobile V8s, received new Postive Valve Rotators for 1970s to increase engine valve life. Motor Trend tested a 442 W-30 with a 4-speed manual transmission and 3.91:1 rear gears, clocking a quarter mile time of 14.2 seconds @ 102 mph (164 km/h). However, Motor Trend noted that Oldsmobile engineers had earlier posted a best of 13.7 seconds on the same test car with a fresh tune. New options for the 1970 442 included GM's Variable-ratio power steering and a console-mounted Hurst Dual/Gate shifter (with bucket seats) that permitted "automatic" or "manual" shifting for the Turbo Hydra-matic transmission previously used on the 1968-69 Hurst/Olds. 1970 Model Year Spotting Tips: Vertical bars in silver grille, rectangular parking lights in front bumper, vertical tail lights. eBay recommended services · History Report - get a vehicle history report and protect yourself from hidden problems · Shipping - get free shipping quotes and information on options to pick up this vehicle · Financing - learn about lending choices · Buyer Checklist - review steps to take to make a safe, successful purchase AS IS - NO WARRANTY This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied.
