Vehicle Detail
Original "Barn Find" Volvo 1800es with only 28,479 original miles! This car is a one-owner Volvo purchased new from Jim Fisher Volvo in Portland, Oregon. Serial # 2400. Original Oregon "Blue-Plate" car -Bought by a local "Swede" and driven very little, then put up on blocks in a barn and covered. Found by a friend of mine, I was lucky enough to be able to do the prep work and now offer the car for sale. Features: *B20 motor, original fuel-injected *4 speed with Overdrive *Orignal seats, carpets, door panels, glass, am/fm Blaupunkt -Volvo factory radio (works great!) *Even has the original jack and the set of leather luggage tie-down straps! *New tires and Volvo Turbo wheels installed, but I have all 5 original "numbers matching" steel rims -fresh powdercoated-chrome rims, caps Service work done: new brakes, rotors, pads, brake calipers rebuilt, new battery, oil change, new fuel pump, gas tank flushed, front-end alignment, seat bottoms re-upholstered (leather was stiff, recovered with close-match european leather. Have plenty to cover seat backs, too, if desired). Chrome is in good shape, Body is straight -has been re-sprayed once (not a premium paint job- has a few stain spots, some imperfections). There is evidence of a little bondo from a repair on the rear driver side quarterpanel, but I can see no evidence of any other repair damage or replaced panels. Glass is all good -windshield is very clear and has almost no specks. Rubber all good. Doors open and close sound and tight -no sag, perfect body lines. Front hood hinges needed repair, as they had frozen up (common ailment), so I refurbished them and installed a support flange to strengthen the hood. Rust: see picture for a few bubbles appearing on the left-rear. No other bubbles. Floor boards very clean. Pictures show under carpets BEFORE I neutralized a little scuffy surface rust, and re-sprayed to seal and match. There are a few little rust flecks on the lower edges of the front and rear valances either from setting under tarp for 10 years, or from road nicks and Oregon rain. Though not 100% rust-free, it is about 99.99% rust free. Rust will NOT be an issue on this car. The Battery box area is also very clean and solid! This car is really clean and straight -but It is NOT perfect, and has been around for 38 years. It does show signs of wear, and will no doubt, need periodic repairs. I had an inspection done by a local Volvo specialist, and the following things are needed: Radiator shows its age and should be boiled and re-sealed; front shocks worn; mufflers are at the end of their useful life. The oil level and sending units both leak oil...but I can see no other oil drips. However, underneath side of car looks like a car that has been driven (as opposed to maybe looking like it just rolled off the showroom floor -which it does not). It was undercoated either at the factory, or at the dealer, and thus, is not shiny and new, but is covered with undercoating sealer. The things that do NOT need attention: all lights, blinkers, side markers, reverse lights, dome light, license plate lights all work. All gauges work except for the oil temp gauge and clock. Seats all adjust smoothly, keys fit doors, Emergency brake works great, car starts right up, runs good, idles good...Overdrive kicks in intermittantly, as the solenoid was stuck from sitting. I will replace that still. Basically, I have spent hours tinkering so that this classic Volvo is ready to go back to work doing what it does best: Driving down the road in style! Although I cannot "Guarantee" that the 28k miles is actual, I can present a very long list of facts that are VERY convincing. For instance: there is an oil change sticker on the door dated 5-9-88 that has 22,746 miles written on it, the brake pads, shocks, air filter, and more are all "Volvo" brand parts...and lots more...just look at the pictures! This is a really great car. Good luck bidding. Bid with confidence. But only bid if you have your financing arranged and if you are serious about buying this. I will answer any questions BEFORE bidding ends, and can help you feel secure BEFORE you bid! Don't miss your chance to own a very clean, original classic! There can't be too many of these left with less than 100,000 miles! On Sep-21-10 at 07:43:53 PDT, seller added the following information: More pictures have been posted on Flickr for your reveiw: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmiddles/sets/ Please email if you have any questions! Please also note that if you are the winner, you will receive a clear Oregon title in your name -so that you are officially the "second registered owner." If you are out of state, then your Oregon title can be re-transfered into your state of residence. This will take about two to three weeks to process. All the paperwork is in order and ready to submit -and I will fax you copies from DMV the day they are submitted. I will cover the costs of the Oregon registration. Call me if you have any questions: 503-689-6070 -DougOn Sep-22-10 at 20:28:21 PDT, seller added the following information: Thank-you for your strong bids. Now that the car has cleared reserve it will soon be parking in a new garage! Please follow the "flickr" link to see these and more pictures. I have added a picture of the full set of original factory rallye wheels that are included with the car, as well as some pictures of my "beauty" as she was found in the Barn! (and you thought that was just a figure of speech!) Also, note that I did have a couple of local Volvo devotees stop by and check the car out. I asked "if the car was presented fairly on Ebay?" and "if anything was "overstated." Both viewers mentioned that it "shows very well" and is "fairly presented in the listing." Here are their comments: "Mufflers not that bad...probably just needs a new resonator" "car is better than was described" "paint maybe not quite as shiny as the pics show, but looks like original paint" (which it is NOT -Doug) "The seat bottom color blends MUCH better in real life than the pictures show...they look quite natural in person!" "It drives really great!" "the condition of the chrome and rubber parts is unbelievable!" "It's a really great car!" (thanks, Bill and Mark!) Happy Bidding!.....................Doug
