This is my adult son's car; I am selling it for him to help him out (and to get it out of my driveway and garage). He was extremely excited about this car when he bought it a year or 2 ago. Then he got a real job and a girlfriend, and a low mileage US-made 4 door sedan that drives like a dream and is much more practical. Hence, interest has been lost in this vehicle. I even had to take the pictures myself. Unlike me, he's a little reluctant to sell it, but he does want to. The previous owner had fiddled with the emmisions equipment and it failed the local Ohio eCheck test required to get license plates when he purchased it. We made the vehicle pass that time with a little work, but this year it failed again. I believe all of the emissions stuff is there now, and hooked up. But again, my son isn't interested in getting it fixed. If you're good with this stuff, or are in a county that doesn't require an emissions test to register/plate the vehicle, my son's disinterest can be your gain. The car runs well, and he loves driving it; it's quite sporty. But as of 8/2010, it is no longer plated (er, plates have expired). We can get new 30 day tags if need be. It does have some fancier stuff - see my son's own description below. He purchased the car for way more than what we will list it for, and he's spent even more money improving and maintaining it. The new tires alone cost a good percentage of the asking price. WILL CONSIDER REASONABLE OFFERS, but in the long-run, we'll also consider listing it again next spring and/or parting it out. I'd prefer to NOT have a dwindling hulk in my garage while parts are removed. This car has way too much potential to part out; it's a fully functional car. However, it's also a goldmine for parts. Someone will buy this thing, won't they!??? The car is by no means a gem, but it seems to turn heads and get positive comments. Please take a look and email with any questions. My son's comments about the car: 1998 Gti VR6 133,151 miles 5 speed manual transmission Ginster yellow, respray by previous owner, shows wear. New tires with 400 miles driven. Weitec coilovers in the rear, stock suspensioin in the front. Neuspeed exaust. 320mm steering wheel with quick release hub. New thermostat, and billet coolant pipe. Optima redtop battery. Leather DE stitched shift boot and parking brake boot. Leather interior. Jetta front end swap. Drivers edition wheels and brakes. Engine runs very good, oil changed every 4k miles with synthetic oil. Won’t pass local emissions check, fenders chipping around top of wheel well, Dent in drivers side quarter panel directly behind door.
