Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1970 Chevelle SS396 that needs a complete restoration. This is a very complete car with the numbers matching 396. It has a turbo 400 trans, bucket seats and console, Fathom Blue with Black interior. This car has a lot of potential being it does not appear to have been altered much during its lifetime. The interior is all original and has an AM radio. It has a 3:31 open 12 bolt rearend. The vin is on the pad in front of the pass side head. It has the 350 HP 396 and M40 Turbo 400 Trans. It still has the original exhaust manifolds and the rest of the engine compartment appears original as well. The car needs both quarters replaced and probably the outer wheel wells. The inner wheel well on the drivers side has a small hole you can from inside the trunk that can be patched. The trunk floor is in great shape with no visible rust. The front fenders both need a lower patch but appear to be in great shape otherwise. Both doors seem solid, I could not find andy rust through in them. The frivers floor needs a small patch where the wire chase runs. The pass floor has a hold about the size of a quarter. Both back floors are in good shape as well. I have had the back seat out and the floor under it is near perfect. The top of the car has surface rust and is not weak or rusted through. It is very solid just needs the rust removed. The pass rocker has a hold in it at the rear about the size of a quarter. It has some how rusted from the outside though. The rockers are solid as well as all the underneath side of the car. This is a great start to a correct and seemingly unmolested 1970 Big Block Chevelle. I have looked for the build sheet but did not find it. I did find a hand written paper in one of the seats that has the RPO codes as follows 13637, (756 Black Bucket Seats) (A51 Front bucket seat) (B22 not Sure?) (D55 Console) (M40 Turbo 400). I have the original Bill Of Sale From Mattingly Rapier Chevrolet in KY. The car appears to be a Two family owned car. There are 5 SS wheels in the trunk only one has a tire on it. I believe only Three of the wheels are usable. The other two have the lug nut holes butchered to say the least. The wheels that are on the car do not go with it. It will have some rollers on it. The car is not in running condition and I do not know if it will turn over. I really hate to sell this but I have way to many projects. I know I have forgotten alot of things so just e amil any questions. Please remember this is a 40 year old car that needs a Complete Restoration. As always Thanks For LQQking! On Sep-14-10 at 16:53:55 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had a couple of questions about the trim tag. Here is the info line by line.
