1998 Jaguar XJ8, Vanden Plas Car needs a transmission. I have a quote (pictured) for $2482 for a used transmission, installed, with a one year warranty. I also have a quote for a rebuild at $975. Both quotes are from AAA Transmission in Casa Grande, AZ. Paint is very good. Body is straight. The interior is excellent, no ripe or tears, barely worn at all. Engine has a lot of power. 125k miles. All tires are the same and have about 90% of their tread. Brakes are good; shocks are also good. The car is regularly started and moved to keep things in working order. Rear driver’s side window is broken because someone broke the window when I left it parked overnight. Nothing else was damaged. Driver's interior door handle is broken. Car starts, but does not shift so cannot be driven, except in reverse. Reverse works normally, but it seems that when you put it in drive, it goes right into 4th gear. There are two ways to own the car. 1.) The dealer is willing to transfer ownership (OAC) to your name when you commit to making the remaining payments, which would be 251.47 due on the 4th of each month and there are 17 payments left. This seems like the best opportunity because you could use whatever cash you have now to get the transmission fixed while making the small monthly payments. After fixing the transmission, the rear window ($200) and the door handle ($100), the Private Party Kelly Blue Book would be $7225, well over what you would have into it. 2.) We could go to the dealer and put the title in your name while you pay the remainder of the note. The balance is $3352.21.
