Vehicle Detail

We have lowered the reserve price to less than the high bid last time so bid to win!! This is a 1 owner 1964 Austin Healey 3000 VIN# HBJ8L/26889 which sold new here in Nashville at John Tune Imports. The loving owner of this car has recently passed away and now his wife has decided to part with her. We were introduced to the car in November of 2006 when she was brought in after sitting idle in the garage for a number of years as the owner wanted to get her driving again. The odometer then read 72,896. At that time we performed a complete inspection and began the process of getting the car running by installing a new battery, ignition points and condenser, removing the gas tank and cleaning out the inside and adding fresh gas (note the bottom of the gas tank has been coated with fiber glass and the inside still has some rust in it). We also had to install a new SU fuel pump and hoses as well as a new filter. The carburetter jets were leaking so we installed new ones. She started right up and sounded great other than the exhaust system was shot. Next we performed a cooling system restoration including removing the radiator for servicing, new water pump, thermostat and radiator hoses and a new belt. We also removed the freeze plugs from the block to attempt to clean as much build up from inside the cooling passages as we could reach. Note at that time the customer elected to bypass the heater so we cannot state whether the core is good or not. After we ran the car and brought her up to temperature we performed a compression test and here are the results: cylinder #1=150psi, 2=145, 3=145, 4=115, 5=145, 6=150. The engine does not smoke. Next we did a restoration of the brake system by rebuilding the front brake calipers, installing new master and wheel cylinders and new rubber hoses. The brake pads and shoes had plenty of material on them so they were cleaned as were the discs and drums. A new brake/clutch reservoir tank was also installed and the hydraulics systems bled with Castrol GT LMA fluid. Once the brake and cooling systems were operational it was time to drive her. Unfortunately the clutch was frozen to the flywheel so we had to replace the clutch. After that she was driving great although still very loud due to the bad exhaust system. So we installed a new Moss mild steel exhaust system with all new hangers. Finally in May of '07 she was ready to go home! She wasn't quite done with us though as a few weeks later she came back in with all of her brake fluid leaking into the vacuum servo. The owner elected to have us remove and bypass the servo so there is no power assist to the brakes now (we still have the servo in a box here ready to be rebuilt). The owner drove the car just a few times before falling ill as the odometer now reads 72,956 miles. She still starts up easily and drives great but as the pictures show there is cosmetic work to be done. Fading/buffed through paint, rust spots behind the doors and also rust to a lesser extent in the bottom of the fender edges front and rear. The frame is in excellent shape and I think I have taken pictures of all of the suspect areas but if you want any specific photos please E-mail me and I will post them for you. There is a lot of original stuff on her most of which is still in very nice shape such as the interior and top, exterior chrome, but do not hesistate to ask any questions and look closely at the photos. We will assist with shipping any way we can and you can also call us at 615-361-3887 between the hours of 9-1 and 2-6 M-F. Thanks for looking! Please use the scroll box below to view all pictures
