Vehicle Detail

I will send this car to auction on Monday if I do not sell it this weekend as I have bought another car. This is the last chance to buy it. All known faults are listed. It is "As is where is." You can call me on 301 270 1998 with any questions. 1998 E320 Mercedes Wagon. High miles. This car has been our daily driver for the past two years and we are now selling it. We have put a lot of money into the car and have decided we do not want to put anymore in to it. We sold it last week but the buyer no longer wants it because so I am selling it on their behalf. In the original description I said there was a problem with BAS ASB system that was locking the transmission in first gear. That problem was fixed and the car ran fine but shortly after taking possession of it the gearbox locked up on the new owners due to a problem with the transmission conductor plate. We therefore came to agreement to relist the car. First off it is in reasonable condition. The motor is fine, the interior is good and the electrics all work. It has four new tires, new exhaust, complete new aircon, new keyless entry system including keys and computer ($2K+). It has been well maintained. It does need work. An independent shop would be cheaper than a dealer. It needs a new transmission condutor plate (which is available new from Volkstoy motorsports for $169 including shipping, they are on the net) and the control unit was full of oil (apparently they are prone to oil wicking up the wires from inside the transmission to the unit which is on the outside) it is still functioning but should be replaced ($168.50 second hand on ebay.) That does not include labor or installation, one front light needs the bulb holder reattached (it shows dimmer than the other headlight) a rear light also needs work (contacts cleaned). The SRS light is on because the sensor that detects if someone is sitting in the passenger seat is broken and would cost $800 to replace according a franchise dealer who also said they did not believe this would affect the deployment of the passenger airbag in an accident. There is some rust coming through and the panels have minor dings. I spoke to an independent mechanic during the week he recommended putting in a second hand transmission rather than buying bits and pieces to fix the existing one. He estimated a second hand transmission could be bought for about $500 and put in for $400. That would give you a functioning E320 wagon for about 3k. Note this is his opinion and should be independently verified. The only accident we ever claimed for was when it was hit from behind in a very slow speed collision. The damage was very minor. The rear bumper was repaired and repainted. Before we bought it the tailgate was damaged. It is still bent but functions fine. This is a car that is showing its age. It car would be good for parts or if you are handy and could do the work yourself would be a useful runabout. It should also be emphasized that these cars had a problem with the spring perches in the front suspension and these need to be checked and repaired as necessary the same with the suspension, the front left spring needs attention. The seller has disclosed all known faults and the car is being sold "as is where is". If these repairs are not undertaken dangerous to drive. This car would be good for parts or if you are handy and could do the work yourself it would be a useful and reliable runabout. This information is given in good faith. The buyer would need to check that themselves. The buyer is also responsible for checking the parts prices and suitability themselves and is not a guarantee of any kind. The diagnosis of the problem was made by a mercedes dealer. Sorry to be sounding so legalistic but I am not a car dealer, I want buyers to have all the information I can provide but I do not want that to be construed as a guarantee.
