Vehicle Detail
Offered for sale is my 1969 Karmann Ghia convertible. I’ve been restoring cars as a hobbyist for over 30 years and pay great attention to detail in my restoration projects. This beautiful Ghia is no exception. I stayed to original standards on this restoration with the exception of the following changes and upgrades. The original color was L51 Chrome Blue which can be seen on some underneath panels. The new exterior color is LB5B Aquarius Blue which is the same color used on the new beetle convertibles. The shades are actually close in color. Also the original dash was wood covered and in need of replacing. I painted the dash similar to the earlier Ghias as I didn’t like the plastic wood grain replacements available. The previous owner also removed the lower chrome moldings from below the doors, removed the VW nose emblem to give the Ghia a smoother look, and removed the reflectors from the rear fenders I will include the nose emblem and reflectors but I don’t have the molding. Molding kits are available from several VW suppliers. I’ve also added dual solex carbs with electric chokes. The original carb, manifold, oil bath air cleaner, and stand are included so you could easily bring the engine compartment back to the original look. The interior including seat upholstery, carpet, and door panels were purchased from the Sewfine company which specializes in quality vintage VW interiors. The materials alone were over $1100 and as you can see, looks beautiful. The black convertible top is the Hartz stayfast canvas material that I preferred over the vinyl material. This is an early 1969 so it has the flexible plastic rear window. All new door seals, top seals, and weatherstripping were used throughout the restoration. The windshield has a wiper mark in the passenger side as is shown in the photos. The engine and chassis components were rebuilt by the previous owner. The engine is the original single port 1600 and runs smoothly and has lots of torque. All steering and brake components were rebuilt or replaced. The suspension includes KYB Shocks. I finished the chassis by adding Coker wide white radials and it really sets the car off. The following repair panels were needed to complete the restoration. New rear floor pan halves were completely welded in, sealed with master series sealer, and undercoated. Also a new battery floor replacement panel was welded in place to repair the engine compartment. The previous owner also replaced the nose panel which looks perfect from both inside the spare tire area and on the exterior. The entire interior floor and doors have B-quiet brand sound deadening added. The doors feel very solid and have that VW ping when you close them. The ride is very smooth and quiet. The bumpers are in good original condition. The rear right side piece has a small dent shown in picture. Also the front center piece shows minor bubbling shown in a photo as well. Included in the sale are a few boxes of spare parts as seen in the photos. The car is located a half mile off I-80 exit 45 near Emlenton, PA. Please email me if you want to set up an appointment to see the car or for more photos. A $500.00 deposit is required within 24 hours with full payment within 7 days of the close of the auction. This Ghia really get the looks wherever we go however my next project is waiting so the Karmann Ghia must go.
