1969 Triple Black Road Runner Convertible “Beep-Beep” 1969 motor trend car of the year! If you want a high-performance car, Road Runner is one to think about, especially since motor trend named it car of the year in 1969 when they had every option to choose from… too bad, so sad coyote! We are pleased to offer this rare and desirable 1969 triple black Road Runner Convertible! In order to meet our impeccable standards, the car is currently undergoing a rotisserie restoration. The body is laser straight and was dipped in a non-alkaline solution to take it back to its original sheet metal. The car was purchased from a local Mopar Club member, where it was housed in a garage for over 15 years! The previous owner was aware of our high standards for our other vehicle restorations in our private collection… hence his willingness to part with the vehicle. The original motor and original carb were recently rebuilt, with all precautions taken to keep this motor in excellent condition. This is an Early Production Road Runner; the build date is August 23rd 1968 and the motor is July 9 of 1968. This car is complete except for jack assembly and hubcaps… we can complete the detailed restoration OR you can buy the vehicle with the body as assembled with motor on a rolling chassis. This is a numbers matching roadrunner triple black convertible… all but the automatic transmission (we will supply a date coded transmission that will go with the car). This RR is a manual break, power steering, 383 automatic with hubcaps and an a.m. radio. Other options include: bench seat, column shift, power top, glass back window, exhaust tips and white reflective side stripes. Anyone that knows and loves Mopars, understands what a RARE find this Road Runner is! Knowing what the finished product would be valued at, we know this car is priced at a bargain as a rolling chassis. History of Plymouth Roadrunner The Plymouth Road Runner was the no-frills muscle car version of intermediate Belvedere and Satellite built by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation in the United States between 1968 and 1980. In 1968, the first muscle cars were, in the opinion of many, moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they gained options. Although Plymouth already had a performance car in the GTX, designers decided to go back to the drawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept. Plymouth wanted a car able to run 14-second times in the quarter mile (402 m) and sell for less than US$3000. Both goals were met, and the low-cost muscle car hit the street. The success of the Road Runner would far outpace the upscale and lower volume GTX, with which it was often confused. The Road Runner added a convertible option for 1969, although fewer than 2000 drop-top models were produced for the year, and only nine with the Hemi. The Road Runner was named Motor Trend Car of the Year for 1969. Sales almost doubled to 82,109. Runner, Plymouth decided to expand the choices. A convertible was added to the existing hardtop and pillared coupe body styles and bucket seats were added as options. The Road Runner decals were now in color. Joining the existing 383 and 426 engines were a choice of 440 cid V8s, Performance: 426/425: 0-60 in 5.3 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.55 sec @ 105mph.
