Vehicle Detail
2002 Volkswagen Golf GLS TDI Diesel 4-door hatchback. 1.9 Liter, 4-cylinder, 90HP, Diesel, turbocharged. 5-speed manual transmission. Indigo Blue Pearl color with black cloth interior. One owner. 181,169 actual miles. The bad news is that the 5-speed manual transmission is going to need work. The first four speeds and reverse operate normally, but 5th gear does not engage. The linkage adjustment was checked by a VW dealership service tech and was determined to be an internal gearbox problem. You may wish to consult with your mechanic to see what they'd charge to fix this for you before you bid. The car is drivable, and at 65 MPH in 4th gear the RPM's are about 3,000. Shifting to 5th gear has the safe effect as shifting into neutral. The good news is that I am the original owner of the car, and it has been carefully maintaned and repaired up until the transmission issue. The car has 181,169 miles on it at the moment, of which probably 85% are highway miles. This can be evidenced by the fact that it still has the original brakes and the gear that wore out was 5th. As you are probably aware, this year VW Diesel has one of the best fuel mileage ratings of all the VW's. I would typically average 42 around town and 49 on the highway. At times with the AC off and a nice tailwind I would reach up to 55 MPG. I use conventional Diesel fuel for the most part, but have used BioDiesel blends of B5, B20, B40, and B100. B100 is 100% vegetable based fuel, and the car exhaust smells like the vent hood exhaust of a Krispy Kreme Donut fryer. Since December 2009 I have put over $5,000.00 in repairs in the car, including a new fuel injector pump, new alternator, new engine vacuum pump, and brake booster. The timing belt, camshaft seals, and water pump were changed at 172,500 miles. A new radiator was installed in August 2009 at 160,914 miles. The last battery was installed in January, 2008, and the Michelin tires on the car now were installed at 133,700 miles. The windshield was replaced once with an aftermarket unit. I have all service records from day 1. Aside from the transmission problem the only other issues with the car are that one glow plug is bad (not a major thing) and the keyless entry function of the keys no longer work. There is also a weatherstripping leak that can allow water into the car during a heavy rain. This could be caused by the sunroof seal, which is the subject of a current VW recall, which the dealer will fix for you free. The driver's side rear view mirror has a crack and the VW emblem of the right rear wheel has flown off. The car has never been in an accident or had any body work done, but it does have the typical nicks, dings, and scratches that you would expect from an 8 year old car. The left rear taillight lens has a crack. The windshield has a couple of gravel nicks, but no cracks. Interior is showing signs of wear, but it's still good. The car has never been smoked in. It's a Texas car and has no rust. The car has had regular oil changes every 10,000 miles since new, always with synthetic oil. The engine does not use more than 1/2 quart of oil every 10,000 miles. The engine in this car performs nearly as well as it did when it was new. I will stop short of saying that I think it's indestructable, but the VW Diesel engine will last longer than the rest of the car. The Monsoon 8-speaker stereo sounds great, has cassette player and single CD player. The sunroof works perfectly, all power windows work, as do the heated seats and side view mirror defrosters (cold weather package). The AC works very wellt. The car is complete, including the owners manuals, all headrests, and rear package shelf. The full size spare tire is still new, it has never been on the ground and the jack has never been taken out. This VW also has driver and passenger side air bags, side impact air bags, and side curtain protection. Car has clear title. I am selling this car AS-IS, WHERE-IS, and I will confirm with the high bidder that they know it will need transmission work. Payment needs to be all at once, and I'm not interested in trading for anything or working any other kind of deals. I'll take cash, check, wire transfer, or Paypal if necessary. Payment should be received within 3 business days of end of auction. Car is located in Austin, Texas and you may pick it up from me here. If you want it shipped you will need to set that up without my help. Please email me with any questions. If you are in the area and would like to take a look at the car or drive it I would be happy to show it to you.
