Vehicle Detail
Last year of the Chevelle SS and this car is one of the rarest of its year. Chevy made 13k small block SS's, 2800 454 automatics, and only 600 454 4speeds. This car may be one of one marina blue exterior, blue bucket/console interior, black vinyl top, A/C car out there still. I had this car listed a couple of months ago and was contacted by the owner who's has a very similiar SS 454 4speed A/C car that was featured in Hemmings Muscle Magazine but his car does not have a vinyl top and he advised me until he saw my ad, he has not seen another car like his: 454, 4spd, A/C blue on blue. I remember seeing his ad in that magazine and his car is beautiful. Mine needs to be restored. My car is a running, matching numbers car though and it includes a pair of GM qtr panels with the sale. When I bought the car it needed a clutch so I put a Zoom clutch in it. When I took the tranny out I discovered the pilot bearing in the back of the crank was oblong which indicated a worn transmission bearing so I had the tranny rebuilt also. Everything is tight now and new. What the car does need is a better shifter/linkage. It still has theoriginal crappy GM shifter/linkage and if you do not snap the shifter out of reverse quickly like it should "snap", the linkage does not move enough and you end up turing the car off, reaching under the car, and moving the linkage rod back by hand to get it it out of reverse, then you can go on your merry way. I also replaced a frozen front caliber which turned out not to be frozen at all but the flexible brake line was so deteriorated that the brake fluid would not return fast enough and would hang the brake up. I changed that line also. The car ran, drove, and stopped when I put it away 2 years ago. When I pulled it out of my storage shed to take the pics you see of it now, the accelerator pump on the carb leaks ALOT and its unsafe; Prolonged running it that way is going to cause a fire. Its good enought to load on a trailer but it makes me nervous. As you can see in the pics, a previous owner painted the car crap brown (I cannot believe whoever thought this was a great color opposed to the original blue but you can see the blue under the paint and under the deteriorate vinyl top). The previous moron also dyed the interior black and again the original blue interior is bleeding thru especially in the seat jambs, etc. Why someone changed the color scheme to its present condition to this day baffles me. The good is that the frame and rest of the car is decent. A parts car for better fenders, chrome bumpers, etc would go a long way. I am relisting this car due to a recent injury which just confirms the fact that I will most likely not get to restore this car. I race vintage motorcross on a 73 Husky CR 250 and just dislocated my right knee cap by banging it on the side of the gas tank while getting crossed up on a jump, I managed stayed on the bike and finished the race, but just had surgery to repair my torn Patella tendon. I am getting too old for this and the realization that I have better things to do with myself instead of sitting in a garage doing bodywork, etc. is sinking FAST. I can get around good enough to tow the car out of the shed while you steer it and help get it onto a trailer but bring help since I am on crutches and will be for the next 2 months. Thanks for the interest and email me with any questions.
