Vehicle Detail
Offered for auction: Jaguar 3.8 S-type with overdrive in Right Hand Drive, built February/March 1967, United Kingdom license plate: LKJ793F, chassis number 1B58540D. Maybe this vehicle will end up as a parts car to keep another S-type on the road, but I would like to see this car running again. It was on the road for quite a while rust and all. We had a rather funny moment with the local police force during that time as well. While running through Washoe Valley on the west side we passed a police car parked on the hard shoulder on the right hand side of the road. Despite my reduced speed after noticing the police car, the officer still pulled out and came tearing after us. After the usual belt wiggle the sheriff's deputy strolled up to the left hand side of the car, looked in, straightened out and casually walked around the back of the Jaguar to the right hand front door. Without so much of a muscle twitch or change of intonation of voice he said: "I thought that was a dog driving." My German Shephard was accompanying me on that trip, and was proudly positioned on the left front seat... The good part of this car is the centre section. Preserved, no doubt, by the oil escaping from the engine. The side rails of the body are only there in our imagination. The panels are available here in this country though. This car spent its early life in England, but came to the US somewhere in the last eighties. It was driven from the east coast to Nevada by a friend of mine. Somewhere in the late nineties the car came to me. The rest of the body has rust in variously places, which makes you grateful of living in a place where no salts are used on the roads during the winter. However, the front and rear secrions are surprisingly good. The truck floor especially. The bottom of the doors are not in the greatest of condition either, but I have three replacement doors and a bonnet/hood to go with the car. The engine is lose, and ran quite well some ten years ago. The clutch started to slip, which was the reason the car was "barned" versus garaged. The overdrive was in working order, which despite the condition of the body made for quite some getaway car. No wonder they were fancied by the crooks in England, and in English cop and robber films for that matter. Ever seen "Get Carter" with Michael Caine? You should. The leather interior is dry as a sea biscuit, and must be beyond salvation. Otherwise the car is complete. The car comes with a Nevada "bill of sale." I will assist the buyer with shipping, but would prefer a local non commercial pick up due to non running of the car. This car is sold "as is, where is" with no warranty actual or implied to any extend. Payment needs to be made in full within seven (7) days from the end of the auction. Payment can be made through PayPal, wire transfer or money order/cashier check. If not paid in full within the specified time limit the deposit will become non refundable and the sale void. Since the car has been lingering in my barn, probably hoping for some attention at some point. I have decided to pare my collection down, and concentrate on my MGC's and my MGB V8.
