Vehicle Detail
Up for sale today is my 53 Pontiac Catalina Rat Rod project. I'm relisting this due to a bidder winning and not paying so if you don't want it or can't pay for it do me a favor, don't bid!! I bought this a while ago from an elderly gentleman in southern Kentucky that had nearly 20 classic cars in his barn. All the cars were well taken care of and stored in a very dry barn. The story of my car is that he bought it in the mid ninetys from a local woman that bought it new and used it as a daily driver. She decided to sell it after the barn she stored it in fell over. As you can tell from the photos part of the barn fell on the car. Not too bad, dents and dings, mainly on the drivers side. Now for the good parts. The car is very structurely sound. The frame has absolutely no rot and the floor pans are excellent with just a bit of rust on the drivers pan. The body has some rust, mainly in the rear quarters, the rest of the car is solid. The spare tire well in the trunk is excellent, no rust!! All in all, an excellent rat rod project if you're into that sort of thing. The drive train is where this car really shines. The flathead straight 8 fires up quickly, doesn't smoke and settles into a quiet idle. The four speed automatic tranny shifts as it should and the brakes work well (they do need adjusted though). Here is a list of what I've done to the car: it's been converted to a 6 volt alternator, new original style 6 volt battery, rebuilt the master cylinder and wheel cylinders, radiator re-cored, new tires, new belt and heater hoses, new rubber fuel line from pump to carb, freed up frozen parking brake cables-works great now. The speedo works, the oil pressure and volt gauge work and the fuel and temp gauges are inop. There is probably a lot more I can't think of that I've done to the car, but you get the point. This is a good solid project for the rat rod crowd, man does that straight 8 sound cool!!! If you're wondering why I'm selling it, just lost my job, gotta pay the bills!!! No reserve, bid to win!!! Feel free to ask any questions and thanks for looking.
