Vehicle Detail
Before you read any further don't put this car down for being an automatic. I know when I was younger they sucked and all I wanted was a 5-speed. But trust me as you grow up you become much more chill and realize that with turbo supras automatics are faster. You don't have to let out of boost between shifts, they shift faster than any human can shift a 5-speed, you don't have to replace clutches, they launch way better and easier at the drag strip, you will get constant times out of it for tuning purposes, and the turbo A340E is BUILT from the factory. It shifts firmly, quickly, smooth, and will bark the tires under boost. Plus since this is a rare automatic hardtop turbo (most were targa since they're fully loaded) its lighter, stiffer, and faster. The A340E can hold upwards of 400hp stock, and can be built to hold whatever you need them to. If you're still reading this then you agree with me, page down to the story. Sometimes I feel the story is more important than the pictures. And believe me, this car has a story. I've always been a fan of some of the best vehicles in the world, the Toyota Landcruiser, and the Toyota Supra. Thats all i've driven from age 14 to 23. But I figured i'd give america a try. I will admit cruising the illinois farm country in a yellow 2010 camaro V6 with lightning on the horizon and AC/DC in my ears was reminiscent of the old days that i've only seen in movies. And then it broke, like all the trash government motors has to offer. It just straight died doing 70 down a 2 lane highway in the middle of nowhere. Waiting for the AAA guy 56 miles away we jiggled wiring, played pacman on our phones, and feared rape by clowns in a field. Luckily country hospitality is real. Nice old man in a truck offered to let us wait on his porch since a storm was coming. On our way down the dirt road he joked that we should leave him the camaro and take his old Toyota. He said it was a 1987 super turbo something, 23 years old, and it ran alot better than our 6 month old camaro. He couldn't have known that i've worked for Toyota, trained at their SEC headquarters in florida, graduated college from the T-TEN program with an associates in automotive technology, held an ASE master tech certification, and currently managed my own shop. I've heard stories of finding rare old cars in barns but that usually pertains to something with a carburetor. He said that he bought it for his son but that he refused to drive it since everyone at his school had big american trucks and Toyotas are lame. So his wife and him just used it for vacation and long trips to other cities. This thing literally lived in a barn amongst farm equipment most of its life. When I first saw it covered in a tarp with a bails of hay and jugs of water sitting on top of it I thought it was going to be rusted junk. He said it hadn't been started in a few months but sure enough it fired right up and I was instantly impressed by how quiet the 7M-GTE was. I've had 8 mk3 supras in my life and they've all been swapped or not running. I've had 1JZ's, 2JZ's, and even a 1G-GTE, but never a 7M-GTE in good shape. I was trully impressed with the exhaust note, the bundles of torque, and how nicely it ran. This thing is no concours vehicle being owned by a farmer but it is still obviously original low miles. I offered him 6k for the car and he said that was more than he bought it for haha. I felt it was a fair price and we came back and picked it up the week after in our recently repaired pos camaro. But honestly I don't really want to do anything with the car. Most people, when they pick up a turbo supra or any special car, they have a plan for it. To make it really fast, or a reliable daily driver, or to restore it, or whatever. But this thing already has all of that so there isn't much for me to do. I just wanted to get it out of that barn and make it available to the world of supra enthusiasts. I don't expect to make any money, nor was it my plan, I have plenty of that. It just needs to goto someone with a plan and purpose for it, i'm getting back into LandCruisers. If you've read this far i'm sure you wont mind reading the rest, page down for details. Exterior: Exterior wise this car SHINES. There isn't one noticeable dent that i've seen, no cracks in the fiberglass, no missing trim pieces, no cracked glass or lenses, no rust. This is no concours car though, it was driven in the country most of its life, though in great shape it is not perfect. It is an original black car, no color change has been done. It could use a professional wax/buff but it is a damn clean looking supra with the JDM Tega epsilon wheels (that were oddly enough already on it when I bought it). All the lights work, wipers, door handles, hatch struts work perfect. The hood struts are missing but cheap and not really necessary as it will stay up at a perfect 90 degree allowing you much more room to work on the engine if need be. The exterior of the car has never been modified, or had stickers, nor can I see any evidence of a wreck. I carfaxed it and the mileage is legit, shows no records of ever being in a wreck. There is zero rust anywhere on the car, the underbody is extremely clean for an older car. It has no water leaks whatsoever, all the seals are good, being a hardtop car this is what you'd expect. The fog lights work great, they were replaced at somepoint and are super bright. This car just looks mean as hell going down the interstate. I installed JDM TT-R springs on it to get the front to sit level. If you've ever seen a stock mk3 supra you'll notice they sit higher in the front than the rear which gets old after awhile. The TT-R springs are OEM for JDM 1JZ recaro supras, they aren't much stiffer but sit about .4in lower in the front. Oh and the headlight washers work great, i've never had a supra that they worked on but its so cool, they're very strong. Interior: This is an original Brown leather car which is the 2nd rarest interior to the Shadow Grey leather that some later mk3's had. It is in superb shape for being a 23 year old leather interior. The seats still have life to them, they are not burnt dried and cracking since they've been in the shade most of their life. Granted though this farmer was a big fella so he did rub on the outer seat bolster getting in and out of the car which wore through the leather. Other than that there isn't much damage. The rear seats are perfect, the carpet is in suprisingly good shape. The headliner is perfect, the dash is perfect, the steering wheel is perfect, the armrest is perfect AND IT HAS THE VERY RARE CUP HOLDER OPTION. This is the first time i've ever seen an mk3 supra with cup holders but this car was fully loaded so its to be expected, they are quite handy. The tems switch sport button has peeled off which is common and cheap to get another one. The passenger seat has one small tear on the very outer edge of the lower cushion side. The drivers power seat adjusts like it should, with adjustable lumbar and side bolsters. The heated power mirrors work great, all the gauges are accurate, all the dash lights, the heater/ac controls are not peeling at all which is very rare for the 87-88 style. The power windows, power door locks, and security system all work great. It has a pioneer CD player and stock speakers. The dome light needs a new bulb, but all the lights under the dash and in the doors work fine. The heat blows hot, AC needs to be charged or something like most older cars. The rear toneau cover is in perfect shape as are all the hatch area plastics. The car even has the original spare in perfect shape, with the tools, and there is zero corrosion from water in the spare tire area. The rear carpet has seen better days but also a cheap and easy replacement as its the same as the tan cloth interior cars which are common. All in all it is a VERY comfortable, nice smelling, calm ride. Mechanical: This is without a doubt the most valuable thing about the car. A 7M-GTE in perfect shape. This thing does not puff one single cloud of any sort of smoke EVER. Cold starts, warm starts, long trips, full throttle, it doesn't smoke at all, starts the same every time. It doesn't leak anything either, you can checkout the garage floor where I park it every night (i've put about 4900 miles on the car so far). The engine bay has seen some dirt as it has been driven in the country most of its life but it is still fairly clean. It isn't leaking oil anywhere that I can see and it is definately the quietest running 7M-GTE i've ever heard. No valve noise (means the shims are still in spec), no bottom end noise, strong oil pressure, no fan noise, no misfires. Simply put it runs perfect. Idles solid around 800, never dips when put in drive or under load like headlights. Comes right down to that solid 800 never missing a beat after a full throttle run. It has never been modified asside from a stupid cone filter that needs to be tossed and replaced with a stock airbox. No boost controllers or shimming of the wastegate, it runs the stock 6.8psi and has never been turned up. Always ran on 93 octane and only used Mobil1 10w-30. Runs about 40psi oil pressure cruising when warmed up which is great for the 7M, temps never even touch half way on the gauge even under full throttle. Transmission shifts quick, smooth, and will bark the tires under full boost. No clunks when put in drive or reverse. Power mode brings the shift points up just below redline. The brakes are in good shape, stock all around, no vibrations or squeaking, lots of pad life left front and rear. The suspension has ZERO squeaks or pops which is a great quality for any older MK3, makes it such a nice car to drive. The 4.10 LSD rear end works perfect, tons of traction. Here's a quick list of whats been done to the car by the farmer and me. Timing belt and water pump 180 degree thermostat coolant flush transmission flush and filter change with mobil 1 synthetic ATF mobil 1 synthetic 75w-90 in the rear diff with LSD additive 10w30 mobil 1 every 3000 miles Denso spark plugs 2000 miles ago 4 wheel laser alignment Thats pretty much it, thats all it has needed. All I would advise you do is put a better intake on it, get a new radiator cap (this one seeps coolant very slowly on long trips, i've never had to add coolant but I noticed it one day). Heres a sad story though hah. Right after I got the car I put a genuine Greddy SP catback on it that I had laying around (one of the best mk3 supra exhausts in my opinion). Unfortunately it was litterally cut off and stolen from the car when I left it in long term airport parking. Ya I know, I couldn't believe it either, someone really wanted that exhaust as it was quite valuable. So the car is running open downpipe now, the catylitic convertor is still there. It is plenty quiet at idle, turbo cars are silenced by the turbo naturally. And the spooling/mean sound kind of grew on me so I never bothered to put another exhaust on it. But thats up to you. Other than that the car needs absolutely nothing, and could goto california and back right now with no doubts in my mind. It has Pirelli tires in the front and Michelins in the back. It was set up like that to reduce the understeer nature of a heavy Inline-6 engine. They still have enough tread to pass inspection and ride smooth, no vibrations at any speed on the interstate. I recently had a 4 wheel laser alignment done so it tracks perfect. I think that is about it, if there is anything else you would like to know, any questions, or if you would like to test drive it before bidding please give me a call at 828-458-0244 any time of the day. The Title is clean, clear, and ready to sign over to someone. I'm youngish so i'm usually awake doing something productive. If you actually read all of this you're a champ, I know I type run on sentences but I just type what i'm thinking as I go. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!.On Jul-07-10 at 18:07:23 PDT, seller added the following information: Also just wanted to say be glad it's a hard top. I just rode in my buddy's targa turbo 89'. If you haven't ever ridden in a targa top mk3 you should. You'll instantly notice how bad the chassis twists around corners and how loose it feels. If you take the top off and then park it on a surface that isn't flat you can't get the top back on, trust me, they twist and flex that much. You'll also notice that they squeak over bumps bad with the top off and sometimes with it on, plus the water leaks.....don't get me started on the water leaks. This is the first time i've had a hardtop turbo car (most turbos were targa with the n/a's being hard tops), and i'm damn glad I got to experience how much nicer they are to drive. Ya the top comes off thats cool, and so is your sunburnt scalp haha.On Jul-09-10 at 13:17:44 PDT, seller added the following information: Just something else noteworthy I wanted to add. This thing has a SOLID engine. I've been driving it daily to and from work in 100+ degree weather and the temp gauge never even touches half way, infact its running cooler than my Hummer does. On-ramps, traffic jams, etc... it has handled this record heat wave with ease, really has impressed me.
