1972 Mercedes 280 SE 4.5 ANY QUESTIONS? PLEASE CALL (786) 517-7002 or (305) 776-9447 Stunning 2-Owner 18,300 Original Miles Full Wheel Covers Power Windows Always Garaged Ice Cold Air Conditioning No Rust Ever Beautiful Authentic Original Car Incredible Original Interior Power Door Locks A car is original only once!! This car is far and away one of the rarest and nicest original Mercedes Benz 280 SE 4.5’s in existence. Most of these cars made it only to the junk heap, but this car was lovingly cared for all of its life. This car was maintained by two caring owners and spent all of its life in a climate controlled garage. It was kept in impeccable mechanical and cosmetic condition. This car is a beautiful specimen. It is one the prettiest 34 year old cars that you will ever see. The paint on the car is tobacco brown with a saddle color interior and causes oohs and ahs everywhere it goes. It is the authentic original color. It is believed to be mostly original paint and although it is not perfect because of its age, it is as good as an original paint car can get. There are a couple of shallow depressions on the trunk lid that could easily be taken out by a dent doctor. There is NO RUST anywhere on the car. The interior of the car is a saddle tan MB Tex and people are always commenting on how beautiful the color combination looks. The interior of the car is incredible. It has to be one of the nicest original interiors in existence. The seats are original and still look great, showing almost no wear (they were always covered with seat covers). The door panels are original and look super. The flooring is excellent showing almost no wear—even the heel pad is like new. The steering wheel is perfect with no flaws at all. The rubber seals and glass are almost perfect. There is no cracking of the rubber and no yellowing or separation of the glass. I don’t think you could find a better original set of rubber seals or original glass. The sun visors are absolutely beautiful. The headliner is in new condition. The dashboard is in near-perfect condition with no cracks or fading on the pad and the nicest dashboard wood I have ever seen on a car of this vintage. The windshield bow has no separation or warping at the ends. This car has one of the most unusual and beautiful dashboards ever made, and it is in near-perfect condition. The heater control levers are not present, but the heater controls function perfectly. The center console is in excellent condition. There is a 70’s CB Radio/8 Track Tape player mounted on the center hump that was ordered by the original owner. It could be removed without any noticeable modifications. The wood trim around the inside of each window is very very original and very good for its age. It just doesn’t get any nicer in a 34 year old car. The car is equipped with the original steering wheel. The full wheels covers are excellent. The car has its original Becker AM-FM radio, and still has the original manuals. The car runs excellently. It is very, very fast. 1972/1973 was the last year Mercedes hand- made its cars before moving to a full production line. This car is beautifully put together. It has radial tires that are in superb condition. The car is equipped with a 276 cubic inch dual overhead cam eight cylinder engine that sports 230 horsepower. The engine is extremely quiet and purrs as it travels down the road at 80 mph. This is one of the best engines Mercedes ever made and with 18,300 miles (can’t be documented but everything about the car says it is 18,300 and not 118,300) it still has most of its life in front of it. With such low miles, it is not even broken in yet. The wheelbase on the car is 107.2 inches and because of the SE designation it is the shorter and more nimble version that is so much sought after. This car can really seat 6 people comfortably and could hold another 3 people in the trunk for those of you that still try to sneak extra people into the Drive-in. This mostly original car was maintained so well you can't believe that it is almost 34 years old. The trunk is in excellent original condition with its original rubber mat. There is NO rust in the trunk. The engine compartment is completely authentic and is in excellent condition. It is definitely in show condition. The chrome on the car shines beautifully and looks great. The overall bright work on the car is one the best original examples of bright work I have seen on a car of this vintage. This car has won many trophies at local car shows. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED AS FOLLOWS: 276 cu.in 8 cylinder, 4.5 liter engine 4-wheel disk breaks Ice cold Air Conditioning Automatic transmission Original factory side mirror AM/FM Becker radio Full wheel covers Perfectly working power windows and door locks Center Console HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE: There were only 41,998 Mercedes Benz motor cars sold in the United States in 1972, with very few of them being 280 SE 4.5’s. There is no exact data on the number of 4.5’s shipped to the US in 1972. The shipping weight was 3766 pounds and it had an original selling price of $12,788.00 making it one of the most expensive sedans sold in the US for that year.
