A Big Block convertible with the muscle, speed, and size to take you on a vacation. A sailor, I restored this Chevelle to tow our 20 foot sailboat anywhere. And, we enjoyed a trip to St. Ignace, MI for a sailing excursion to Mackinac Island. Our 396 has the power to get us there, launch the boat, and most important- pull the trailer out of Lake Huron with the sailboat fully loaded and with ballast. Most use four wheel drive vehicles for this task. We have favorably impressed other patrons of the boat dock with the power of this Chevelle. This a functional, tested, driven convertible, and no trailer queen: a work horse; not a show horse. We have won car show recognition, and it looks as good as it works. We have tried to keep the Chevelle essentially original, but have chosen to upgrade wherever possible to take advantage of the latest technology and improve reliability, and drivability. For just a few examples- ANCO "Countours" wiper blades and arms replace the old and semi-functional OEM wipers. New underdash gauges reporting amperage, temperature and oil pressure replace idiot lights. Internally regulated alternator avoids using a conventional regulator. Why not? Drive Train: 396 cubic inch 325 horsepower rebuilt in 2003. Numbers matching heads and block. Remanufactured (not just rebuilt) 400 Turbo Hydramatic transmission by Leon's Transmission, Lansing, Michigan. New universal joints. New four core radiator. Rebuilt quadrajet, and supertuning by Enhanced Performance, Lansing Michigan. New "Race Proven Moroso Blue Max" ignition wires. Internally regulated, high output, alternator. Convertible Top: New Car's Inc. convertible top and pads installed by Schubel Auto Trim, Lansing MI. Power top swith, wiring and set up. Needs power top motor and hydraulics. We use it in manual top mode right now. New convertible top boot. Interior: Bucket seats from a 1969 Camaro (because they look better than the stock seats) with original back seat- recovered by Auto Interiors, Lansing, MI. Console shift. Courtesy lights under the dash and in the rear of the console. Corvette steering column. New glove box with functional light. New quartz clock keeps accurate time. Car's Inc stereo cassette designed to fit the stock dash, and four speakers. 6 x 9's in the rear and two smaller speakers are in front where the original AM radio speaker would go. Suspension: Four new P225/70R-15 Roadhugger tires on new rally rims with new valves. New control arm bushings. New ball joints. New shocks; air shocks in back. Hitch connected to the frame. Brakes: New brake lines, hoses, and cylinders. Very rare in 1969: Disc OEM brakes up front. Body: Super Sport hood. Sherman and Associates rear fenders. New floor and trunk bottom.
