Vehicle Detail

This is a genuine G code 1970 Boss 302 Mustang with 42K original miles. The paint and interior are original. I have a Marti report for it and it is still is setup just as it was ordered new. It’s medium blue metallic (code Q) with medium blue interior (code BB), shaker scoop, power disc brakes, 3.91 traction-lok rear (code V), rear spoiler with prop rod, original front spoiler, AM radio and tinted glass. This Boss has it original date correct heads, transmission, rear and date correct D0ZF block. It also has the original exhaust system except for headers which were added in the 1970s. The exhaust system is tight. The Ford original mufflers look good. Also original is the alternator/regulator, radiator, transmission speedometer gear reducer, lower radiator hose, shaker (no snorkel), water pump, cooling fan, yellow top coil, Carter X fuel pump, AM radio and Hurst shifter/boot. The snorkel, rev-limiter, factory Holley and smog were missing when I got it. Also, the intake is a D1 service replacement and the distributer is an NOS 289 HiPo that I pulled out of the Ford box and installed. This is a very solid, original Boss 302 that has never had rust. I consider this a southern car. It was sold new and remained in the Richmond Virginia area until I purchased it 2 years ago. It had been garaged off the road since 1980 when I bought it. The undercarriage has very, very little surface rust and is a marvel to look at especially with the original exhaust system from the headers back. The undercarriage has never been painted or undercoated so cleaning it with WD-40 will produce a clean original bottom that few cars can brag about today. Even the rear springs are clean and original DOZA-C. The exterior paint of the car is OK for original paint, but the driver’s rear quarter was replaced in the late 1970s and the paint is flaky inside the door jam of the replaced quarter. Please note: there are dents on the passenger door and passenger front fender (see photos). But the rest of the car is straight. The front end is straight, gorgeous with all original hardware, original Ford headlights and nice bright metal trim. The suspension is all original including front/rear sway bars. I am the 3rd owner of the Boss 302. The second owner purchased it in 1973 (I have copy of title) and after driving it only 1000 miles, parked it in a garage in 1980 where it sat for 28 years. Because of this dry storage the interior is almost perfect and there is only minor surface rust on the hood where the paint flaked off years ago (blue metallic does not hold up well to sun). The only interior wear is the driver’s seat where your wallet hits (see photo) and the dash. The passenger seat and driver seat bottom still have factory seat covers! I decided to leave the seat covers on. The dash has some cracks on top. The back seat, headliner and side panels are perfection—bright colors and no scuff marks. The door panels and aluminum door sill plates look NOS. The interior chrome, carpet and headliner are almost perfect including the chrome around the gauges and radio bezel. I rebuilt the brakes (new master cylinder, new pads, new calipers, new cylinders, new brake hoses), and installed a new gas tank w/sending unit, new starter, new battery. I put on a new rear bumper and installed an NOS rear valance—the old one was dented. The trims rings/caps are original Boss 302, and the steel rims are 15X6.5 Police. The doors close nicely (all rubber gaskets are excellent) and the original Carlite glass is nice except for some vandal’s scratches on the driver side windshield. The trunk is clean with no rust. Under the hood is again original paint with the factory shock tower bracing. Paint OK stamping are visible under the hood. Again, there is no rust even on the top of the shock towers. The closer you look at this low mile Boss, the better it is. This Boss drives beautifully. But the engine will cut off after 10-15 minutes of driving. It also runs warm with the original radiator. But it does not boil over, but the temp gauge reads high. I’m not sure why it cuts off, but after 15 minutes it fires right back up. It did it several weeks ago and I was able to get it started again right after cutting off, but it would not hold an idle. I tried changing the coil without success. The engine has good oil pressure, no smoke, no noises and good power. The steering box is tight so there is no play in the steering. The original shifter is butter smooth in all gears and the 3.91 rear is quiet. I believe the front shocks are original black Autolites, but the backs are not. Everything works on the Boss 302 and there are zero rattles while driving. I have two other Boss 302 projects (orange and gold) and my resources are limited, so I am selling this solid, original Boss 302. Maryland title is in my name. I reserve the right to end this auction early. Call Rick Barker (301) 779-0114 for questions, more pictures or to see in person this nice Shaker Boss 302!
