Vehicle Detail

Offered for sale is my beloved 1979 MGB. I am the third owner of this little car and have owned it for the last 6 years. During that time, I have enjoyed working on and driving this sports car and it has never let me down. Unfortunately, I have lost my storage space and I am forced to reduce my number of cars to what will fit in my driveway. This will make a great daily driver for the summer, or would be a solid base to do a restoration on. Much work has already been done. MECHANICALS: I purchased this car from a friend who had it sitting in his garage for the previous ten years. At the time of the sale, it had gone 77K miles and needed a lot of TLC. The car was gone through by the dealer who had sold the car to the previous owner and I had all the major systems replaced or repaired (water pump, radiator, cooling fans, brakes, clutch hydraulics, all new rubber, battery and a Weber carb). Over the next five years and 20K miles, I worked on the car as time and money would allow and continued to rehab areas that were weak (full front end rebuild, new HD shocks, GM alternator conversion, SS brake hoses, fuel pump & sending unit, new tires). One of the great attractions to me of this car is that it has essentially remained stock original and hasn't suffered from some of the ham-fisted repairs that non-British mechanic suffer on these cars when they try to "fix" them. The car starts every time (even after 6 months in storage) and runs extremely well. When it was put on a dyno recently, the engine put out 63 HP, had a max torque of 92.2 @ 4500RPM and ran an almost perfect air/fuel ratio (report available upon request). While the engine has the typical British oil leaks, it does not burn oil and has strong oil pressure (60lbs @ idle / 75+lbs @ 2500RPM). The engine runs cool over thee road and the electric fans work properly to keep it well within temp even in stop and go traffic. The clutch and transmission are in good working order and shift well. The clutch should be replaced in the mid-future and the transmission does pop out of third on the rare occasion. BODY: The car retains it's original Russet Brown color paint, but the front hood and fenders were repainted before the last owner bought it (typical carb/engine fire). The car has it's share of dings and paint chips and the hood has a divot in it, but it still looks good from 10 feet. This car suffers from the typical rust that all MG's are prone to, but has benefited from being garaged and not being driven in bad weather during the last 17 years of it's life. The bad news is that the rockers and dog legs are rusted with some areas of rust through and metal loss. The good news is that the interior sills, floor boards and trunk are still solid and mostly rust free. The body is obviously the weakest part of this car and will need attention if you are planning to keep it for another 17 years. Fortunately, all the body panels are still available and you can even purchase an entire Heritage body if you really want to go all out on a serious restoration. For now, the body structure is strong enough that it can be driven daily so that you can enjoy it in the summer and work on it in the winter. INTERIOR: The interior is nice on this car with all the instruments and their respective lights working. The dash looks great and is not cracked and the console and cover are in good shape. The door panels are fair to good with a little sagging/warping and the carpets are ok, but are a mixed set of both black and tan. I will include a new tan carpet set with the purchase. The seats are in need of recovering, but look ok with the cloth seat covers I have installed. There is an older stereo/cassette player and equalizer amp installed that works fine. I have replaced the front speakers with nice Infinity's, the rears could use upgrading, but who hears the stereo with the top down anyway. It has a beautiful Nardi wood steering wheel that could benefit from being refinished One of the nicest additions I have made over the years, is that I replaced the original black vinyl top with custom-ordered EZ-On Sunfast tan cloth top with tinted plastic windows and a zip out rear panel. This cloth top is in as-new condition and is a real pleasure to put up and down. No more struggling with cold, stiff vinyl. The top fits well, looks great and adds a real touch of class to the car. ETCETERA: This is a great little car that is fun to drive and easy to work on. It runs well and has been very reliable for me over the years. I have taken it on thousand mile vacation trips and it has never left me stranded. All that being said, it is not a perfect car. The body needs attention, the interior could be spiffed up and it suffers from the occasional electrical gremlin that Lucas is so famous for (the clock works, now it doesn't...the horn works, now it doesn't...what do you mean that you want the turn signals to turn on and blink at the same time), but what can your expect from a 31 year old car? TERMS: The car is price fairly to reflect it's condition and my desire to see it go to someone who will appreciate it. The reserve price is not negotiable nor will it be revealed. The car has been listed locally and I reserve the right to end the auction in advance. The car is being sold "as-is, where-is" with no warranties given or implied and I have a clear title in hand. Winning bidder is responsible to arrange pick-up/transport, but I will be happy to work with you. PayPal is the only accepted method of payment (except a cash sale). Winning bidder must pay a $500 deposit within 24 hours of the close of the auction. Balance is due within 7 days or when the car is delivered, whichever is sooner. All sales are final. If you have a positive feedback rating of less than 25, please contact me before bidding. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND GOOD LUCK BIDDING On Jun-01-10 at 09:16:36 PDT, seller added the following information: 01/June/10 : Thanks to everyone who has expressed so much interest in my little sports car. The number of views and watchers has been wonderful to see. Your email questions have been wonderful too, but as we get closer to the end, I cannot always answer every question in a timely manner, so I would like to add the most common answers to the your questions. The car is located in Framingham, MA, when it is not being garaged. It is available to be seen locally, but only in the evenings and by appointment. I work days. The 86,426 mileage is correct and I have only driven it 10K in the last six years (20K was a typo)It is currently registered, insured and just passed MA state inspection. I do not know if it will pass your state's inspection. The car is 31 years old and therefore is being sold "as-is, where-is" with no warranties implied or given. I cannot hold the car for any extended length of time. I do not have the space. SorryPick-up and delivery of the car is the buyer's responsibility, but I will work with you to get it delivered.I do have additional pictures and the dyno report available if needed. I do not have the time to take specific pictures for you.Lastly...As stated in the ad, I will not reveal the reserve price. It is unfair to all the other bidders and defeats the purpose of putting a reserve price on an item...so please do not ask. I will say that the car is priced reasonably at less than half of what I could get if the body work was done and it is one of the least expensive MG's currently running on eBay.Thanks again for looking and best of luck bidding. Cheers! Kurt
