Vehicle Detail
Up for auction here is a 1952 MG TD. This car has been in my family since (I believe) 1965. This was my fathers. It has been off the road since 1981. He started a restoration but passed away before he was able to complete it. I was helping him with the restoration. The motor has been rebuilt and is ready to go. One carburetor is assembled, one is apart but I have the rebuild kit. I was going to ship these out and have the throttle shaft bushings replaced, but other than that, the motor is done. There is a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, carb rebuild kits, and tons of other stuff, look at the pics... an entire interior with new seat covers and all panel covers, rugs, we had new floorboards made, new front and rear bumpers, etc, etc. The car itself is in unbelievable condition. My father never drove it in the winter (or rain or anything). It's been off the road since 1981 and always garaged while we had it (as far as I know, I wasn't born when he bought it, lol). The car has absolutely no rust whatsoever. The frame, fenders, etc are all perfect, not even surface rust. The body is in incredible condtition. There might be a little puck here or there, but this hardly requires any bodywork at all. It's common knowledge these rust in the battery tray area so I've included some pics of this area. There is some minor corrosion, but all in all, it's very good. I have every part for this car, and the motor numbers match the chassis. Tons of new parts for this car. Pretty much all you need to do to complete the restoration is get the carbs rebushed (could run them as is, but I wouldn't), paint the car and assemble it. There shouldn't be much left to purchase for it. The car is painted red, and was repainted (same color), but the paint was probably done in the 60's and faded and chipped. Also, there is a small crack in the windshield, the lower right corner is cracked (not in wiper sweep). I could go on and on, but please ask questions if needed. This will be one beautiful car when its done, and I doubt you will find a better example anywhere to restore. On May-18-10 at 13:04:59 PDT, seller added the following information: One bidder asked me about an air cleaner, so I went looking for it today and I can't find one, and actually, I'm not sure it had one when my father was driving it. I remember him having what looked like wire mesh filter elements attached to the air intake of the carburetor with springs. Now, I was 12 years old when my father pulled this off the road, so it's hard to say excactly. I will keep looking (there are a lot of places to look) but for the time being assume that this is not included. If this is an issue for anyone who has already bid let me know and I will cancel your bid. Thanks! On May-20-10 at 15:05:03 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: All right, I hate to do this but this is going to sell this auction, she needs to go. I've lowered the reserve and I'll disclose it, it's $5500, so good luck to everyone. If there are any more questions email me.
