Vehicle Detail

Lots of hard work and hours have been put into this car already, consider it a project that is already well under way and it needs someone to finish it off. I purchased it "as is" as part of a package and got a thorough tie in from the owner. I looked the car over thoroughly and took lots of pics to show the status of the car. It’s a late 68 model year and came with Independent Rear Suspension that didn’t officially start till 69. Owner recently retired from a local aerospace company where he worked in fabrication and had previously done a body off restoration on a 58 Ghia and a 50’s Ford truck. As you read through this and look at the pictures understand all the work was done by skilled hands, not some kid learning how to weld. The car was running and driving until Jan of 2009. Without seeing the car in person you can't get an appreciation for how much time and labor have been put into the car so far. Here is what you get: Pan – Late 68 stock pan (Clear title, VIN matches body), IRS transaxle, ball joint front beam, and front disc brakes. Floorpan halves have already been purchased ($400) and welded in. Body - Was carefully disassembled and all parts including wiring harness, gauges, seat belts, electrical relays/switches, mirrors, taillights, seals, rubber, trim piece, bolts, front/rear/side windows, hinges, springs, steering column, glove box, etc were saved, labeled, and put into plastic bags. All rusty or suspicious areas of the body were media blasted and sprayed with zinc chromate etching primer. Areas of the car where the body was already pristine and rust free were left alone (roof, front and rear hood, etc) but if it was in doubt it was blasted. Several repair sections have already been welded in on the RH side of the car, engine compartment, rear fenders, and inner front fender/trunk area. Included with the car are hundreds of dollars of new rust repair pieces that were purchased from Karmann Ghia Parts and Restoration (detailed list and pictures will be added on Sat May 15th) and several used ghia sheet metal sections to finish the car off so you shouldn’t need to buy anything. Package comes with a current Kansas title, Body and pan with matching VIN numbers (body plate removed but I have it), original owners manual, several keys, and all of the parts/pieces listed and shown in the pictures. Parts include matching front/rear seats and interior door panels (very good condition), front hood (excellent cond), doors, dash pad, all glass (F/R windows, driver/pass windows, and rear 1/4s) and all the interior/exterior mechanical and electrical parts removed from the car (gauges, Sapphire radio, relays, nuts/bolts, hinges, springs, seals, chrome trim, window regulators, original jack/handle, glovebox, handles/cranks, 4 hubcaps/wheel rings, electrical regulator, fusebox, switches, and relays). It does not come with an engine or bumpers but pretty much everything else is there! Please look over the detailed pictures of the parts (or I can e mail high res versions) since what you see is what you are getting. I have a 100% complete 1500 cc engine (H coded case) that runs well and was rebuilt by the VW factory (has an X after the engine Serial Number) available separately for $550 if you are interested. For an idea of the amount of bodywork the car needs I spoke to a very reasonably priced local body shop guy with 12 yrs experience in the Wichita area who works out of his home, he quoted $1300 to finish the welding/rust repair, prep the car, and paint it. I can drop the car off at his shop if you want and you can pick it up. Please contact me with any questions or if you would like me to e mail you the high resolution pictures. I would really like to the person who gets this car finish it! Payment and pickup/shipping $200 non refundable deposit due within 24 hrs of auction close. Car needs to be picked up within 2 weeks of auction close. I may be able to haul the car short distances for an additional fee. If for some reason you wont be able to leave the deposit within 24 hrs, pick the car up within 2 weeks, or have a question about shipping contact me so we can work that out BEFORE the auction otherwise it will be relisted after 2 weeks. Please note I will be unavailable Sun May 30th thru Friday June 4th so the car cant be picked up during those times. On May-15-10 at 12:45:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Update as of Sat May 15th. I added in 4 more pictures of the car and a picture of the new rust repair pieces from Karmann Ghia Parts and Restoration that are included with the auction. Those pieces will fix the front portion of the right rear fender (inner and outer) and the left rear portion of the left rear fender (In the earlier pictures you can see that the same piece has already been welded on the right hand side). There are several sections from donor cars inside of the car as well. Here are the KGPR pieces... Also added pictures of the rust repair panels adjacent to the areas they are for and pictures of the spare sheet metal pieces. I believe I have shown all of the parts for the car in various pictures, the car is 95% + there down the details of the plastic pieces that surround the steering column, the trim pieces, washer fluid resovoir... Its all there. Feel free to e mail if you have any questions.
