Vehicle Detail

If you are looking for a real unmolested RS/SS you likely just found one of the most original and rust free 1968's in the country. The phrase "barn find" is getting a little abused these days but this is just about as close to a car sitting in a barn as you will find. This car is an original black plate Southern California car, it was there until about a year ago when I bought it from a private seller and shipped it East. I bought this car on a bit of a whim and currently do not have the storage, time or energy to go through the restoration this car deserves. The car is equipped with its orginal drivetrain and all of its original body panels, everything is original down to the paint. The only non original items I can identify on the car are the wheels, shocks and the windshield wiper blades. The car had only one minor body repair I can see, about mid way up the rear quarter on drivers side, you can only tell because the paint looks different, but it is a very old repair not rust related in any way. Car is obviously white, it had a black vinyl roof, factory AC, factory houndstooth interior, 350 engine and automatic transmission. I actually have the original keys and both doors and the trunk open and close perfectly. "The Story" I recieved, which I beleive to be true, is that the car was being driven at one point during the very early 1980's, the owner swerved to avoid something in the road, skidded up on the curb and hit some object. The car sustained a tear in the oil pan and the hideaway headlight was inoperable. The car was then parked in a garage where it had been sitting until being bought from the next door neighbor whom I aquired it from. The lower front balance is pushed up, the radiator shroud is cracked on the bottom, the oil pan does have a tear in it and I have not attempted to run or turn the motor. The damage to the front however was very minor, as the orignal bumper is not twisted at all, neither is the radiator support or anything else I can tell. Some parts were taken off the car at some point in order to begin repairing or assessing the damage, but I have all the parts as you can see in the pictures with the exception of the grill. The car needs a complete restoration, but it does NOTnot ANY body panels replaced, rear quarters, floors, doors, trunk, fenders are all very solid and usable. The only area with any real rust damage is in the picture by the base of the rear window from water being trapped by the vinyl roof, about a 2 inch by 1/4 inch area. Look closely at the pictures of the floor pans, fender well area and rockers, all solid. It does have small dings and minor dents in a few places but nothing of any real consequence. The windshield is broken. The interior is all original as well, right down to the radio. The door panels, dash, console are all in exceptional condition, even the seats and carpet are in great shape but anyone doing a high quality resto will likely replace. This should be a very straight forward restoration with the end product being a very original, very rare and VERY REAL car. Again, it is wearing its original paint and that is almost disintegrating off, so the task of preparing the body should be quite easy. I looked and looked for a first generation car for a long period of time before finding this one. Even out in CA, cars with complete floor pan replacement, frame repairs and with new quarter panels comprise 95% of what I could find, not to mention the cars that were basically completely rebuild with aftermarket parts. Again, I have multiple collector cars, this an incredibly solid original car which I would really like to see restored to the vey highest standards. I will do my best to answer questions should any come my way. I do not have much in the way of documentation but I do have the black plates. I have the title in hand and will work with you to have the car shipped anywhere in the US or Canada. Please do not bid if you cannot complete the transaction, ask any question before bidding, I reserve the right to end the auction early. On May-01-10 at 19:16:13 PDT, seller added the following information: I had a few inquiries about the rear end. The rear end is indeed a 12 bolt, as it should be. Additionally, the engine is stamped "VO625MU", decoded as assempled in Fint Michigan "V", in June "06", on the 25th of the month, "MU" is engine code for the 1968 350ci/295hp L48 used ONLY in SS cars with automatic transmissions.
