Up for auction is a 68 XL 390 4 speed convertible. This car is a factory 4 speed (very cool low production car only 172 390 4 speed convertibles made).Check out the Marti report in pictures section. Data plate info is 8E61Z212031 Body 76B color R trim RAA date 06E DSO 15 axle 7 Trans 5 History: I bought this car last year so I could have a weekend cruiser for car shows and hauling the kids around. I started the refurbishing with having the top and interior replaced and I had the structural stuff done. I also did the basic mechanics oil change and tune-up etc and had the exhaust replaced as well as redoing the brakes. My issue is I always wanted a 64 Galaxie and had the opportunity to buy one recentlyand do to limited space and time restraints I reluctantly have decided to sell this car. The reserve is very fair for a car like this especially since it’s in decent condition on the underside. Drive train: engine appears to be the original and runs fine. The factory Autolite carb was recently replaced although the coke isnt hooked up. This car does have power steering but it jitters a bit so it will eventually need a power steering pump. The original toploader is fine also except for the shifter which is a little temperamental. The exhaust system was completely replaced and I added a used set of magnum 500's (15") along with new tires. I would recommend a front end alignment and replacing misc things like wiper blades and bulbs and maybe a check over of the suspension since this car was off the road for the last couple years but it does seem to drive and run Ok, at least the short distances I’ve driven it. I believe it also needs a gas tank sending unit. Interior: I had the seat covers and carpet replaced. The factory console is in the car, it’s missing the rear ashtray. The door panels are originals and will need replacing in the future. I had the top replaced along with the correct rear glass window. The cables, pads and rear well liner were also replaced. All in all the interior shows well. Body: the exterior has several dents but nothing major, the worse is the right quarter rear (see picture). Hood has a dent. There is some rust on the front corners of the doors. I can tell the car has had previous patching on the lower quarters but nothing looks major. The underside is in good condition. These cars are prone to frame rust because the frame is boxed in and holds water. I had the fame repaired on both sides. The left side had a small 2 inch rust hole which was cut out and welded up and the right side had a 15 inch section cut out and rewelded all work was performed professionally. Both sides were also cosmetically fixed so they look good. This car has great body gaps and doesn’t sag. It didn’t sag prior to the repair either. The floor is in good condition, there were a couple small repairs that were made prior to me buying it but they look Ok. I was planning on driving the car as is till I had the bodywork redone. To summarize the car still needs a few little things but is in overall decent condition. I tried to represent the car accurately but recommend anyone wanting to buy the car to look at it in person.
