Vehicle Detail

1993 Corvette ZR-1 #82/448 Please wait for all pictures to load! Just over 27,000 original miles - 4 out of 5 owners and timeframe documented. Comprehensively original paint, interior and mechanicals apart from maintenance and wear items. One of ELEVEN 1993 examples of the ZR1 in Arctic White over Light Grey Leather One of FIVE with the high-torque 'Black Tag' ZF 6-speed Manual Transmission A SHOE-IN for Benchmark at any regional meet and a very nice, understated and well-cared for example. I've owned this particular car for about two years, during which time I've put about 6,000 miles on it - many of these on long highway trips out on the open road where this car's excellent performance and remarkable fuel economy come into their own. One of the things that needed doing when I picked the car up, however, was the replacement of the headlamp bushings - the originals had turned into a fine powder - I replaced them with Delrin bushings from Ecklers and they should not require replacement again. Let's take a walk around this remarkable car and let the pictures speak for themselves. Put this photograph up against a standard Corvette and you'll see the difference - the ZR1's rear body is considerably wider and its third brake light is not in the bumper but above the rear window. On top of this, the 1993 ZR1s are not only rarer from a production standpoint but their LT5 engines now had 4-bolt main bearings, ported and polished cylinder heads, slightly hotter cams and other improvements that were good for a 30 horsepower increase over 1990-92s. Currently, the white top is on the car - the car came from new with both blue glass and this one. Both remain with it. The blue glass top has a very small scratch (about 1 cm) near the left front corner and was there when I acquired the car. A new-old-stock top acquired from a friend in Detroit, Michigan comes with the Buy-It-Now; this is how crazy I am about keeping this car up. Now you've seen around the car - let's take a look inside ... The interior is likewise spotless. As is the leather on both seats. Walking around to the other side, there's very slight wear on the driver's door pull - GM used a rubberized plastic on many pieces of these cars that are prone to light scratches. There are also a few light scuffs on the rubberized trim on the center console. I'm being picky again. More.... I last filled the car up down at Virginia Int'l Raceway - drove down to a charity event two months ago and took the car out for a few quick laps before taking over a VW R32 pace car as it turned a bit wet later in the day. Had a bit too much fun though, the fuel economy begins to turn to gallons per mile when one stays firmly in 'ZR1 Mode' so had to fill up there! On the trip home, I managed to just sip fuel... The flash picked up every speck of dust here - sorry. Note the sockets for wheel removal and small tool for changing the roof panels out. Note also the small wadded up oil change stickers I found under the seat from its first Florida owner - serviced at the original selling dealer with around 11k on it in 1995-6. Owners manual is complete but may not be original to the car - I suspect the original owner traded it in and dealers usually can the manuals for privacy reasons. Perfect cargo cover - cargo area nice and clean as well underneath. The original ZR-1 windshield with its Solar Tint and only very slight (and very typical) delamination around the edge. Note the small radar detector window. Michelin Pilot Sports front and rear on absolutely perfect original alloy wheels. Note the tire pressure sensor sticker on this wheel - they're on all four. Here's doubtless what you wanted to see - the absolutely un-modified 1993 405hp LT5 engine. I have fitted a different EPROM to the control unit that eliminates the 1-4 shift and puts the power mode on FULL by default among other things, but I have the original chip should you desire it. I also changed the A/C belt tensioner as it became noisy - I saved the original. I have not detailed the engine bay - it's just always this clean and easy to keep that way. I did a full oils and fluids change over the course of my ownership and will pass this log on to the next owner. Some of the spare bits with the car include the blue top with the spare top bag to protect it or the other one, two other sets of mats - the unmarked ones are in the car while the 'ZR-1' logo mats and the 'All Weather' mats are here. A showfield sign was prepared by a previous owner. The box of parts I bought as spares for the vacuum secondary port actuators also comes with the car at the reserve price. Not shown here is the two-volume set of 1993 Corvette Factory Service manuals and a few other bits and take-off parts from service. In this box is a Holy Grail part I'll ship you if you win at the Buy it Now price - this contains a perfect new-old-stock blue top with the plastic still on it, in the original GM tagged box. As mentioned before, the original top has a barely-noticeable scratch in it. Here's the way the car usually sits, under its correct Wolf ZR-1 cover in the garage. I seem to think prior owners took similar care of the car given its amazing condition inside and out. Check out the original paperwork - 2nd, 3rd and 4th owner title copies and plenty of other documentation from the last number of years. The selling dealer is also on both of the two window stickers (original list price new was $67,778 in 1993 - $31,683 of that just the ZR1 package!). Note also the original front license plate panel - I've got an Eckler's clear unit in now for our required Virginia front license plates. Just a small tidbit, I forgot to mention earlier; I have BOTH sets of original keys including Power keys, the original keyless transponder fob and the original gold 'ZR-1' keyring - all as new. This gold keyring was about the only 'boutique' item that came with this vintage of ZR1 from new and more often than not has been separated from the car. who am I/why am I selling? I'm Chip Lamb, writer for Sports Car Market and Corvette Market magazines among others. I was also a vendor to GM Heritage before, during and after my purchase of this car. My friend Dick Balsley (among others) was one of many who encouraged me to experience one of these and which car in particular to look out for. Dick would know, as before he ran GM Heritage, he was one of a handful of GM engineers sent to England to assist Lotus in the development of the LT5 powertrain, then intended for the CERV-III and Indy Pace Car prototypes. Dick's advice as well as my own tastes led me to this car - a 1993 with the 405bhp LT5, the first year for that but the last year of the more-stylish interior and the last half-year for the heavy-duty Black Tag ZF 6-speed transmission (downgraded due to customer complaints about noise and whining). Since I'm not really a whiner myself, it was a good piece of advice. I waited for the right car to come around with plenty of known history and I jumped on it. To be honest, I'm not sure I want to sell this car, but as Peter Egan used to write "I don't have too many cars or bikes but I've got too many batteries that need charging, oil that needs changing..." I've had a hankering (again) for a clean Porsche 993 (the 911 from 1995-98) in either a Coupé or Targa body or perhaps even a 1989 930 with the G50 5-speed. Hence the desire to make room. If the right number manages to come up on the ZR1, great; if not, I don't need to sell it. Springtime is here and the market has not really gone away on really exceptional cars like this one, so perhaps there is a better 'butt for this seat' than me. We'll just have to see! I welcome questions not answered by the description above but please don't ask things I've already answered - I have gone to much trouble to do this in as comprehensive a manner as I know how to. payment and shipping Payment is due in certified funds, in full, no later than seven (7) days following your successful winning bid and the close of auction unless other arrangements are made with me prior to your placing any bid. Accepted forms of payment include a cleared cashier's cheque in my bank account or direct bank wire following instructions I will give you if need be. I would hope that any purchaser of this car be familiar with UPS Next Day Air or FedEx and have the courtesy to use those to get me paid and your cheque cleared as quickly as possible. If you cannot pay, need a loan or otherwise before being able to pay by the above terms please do not bid on this auction, enough said. Shipping needs to take place no later than eighteen (18) days following your successful winning bid and the close of auction, again, unless other arrangements are made with me prior to your placing any bid. I'm more than happy to work with your shipper or pick you up at the airport/train station et.c.; I see no reason why you can't drive this home, but if you're going to ship it I recommend you use a top-flight enclosed outfit such as FedEx/Passport or Reliable Carriers. Overseas? No problem, so long as you make the above arrangements as a domestic buyer would. You are responsible for all export and shipping arrangements just as if you lived in the USA. I'll be happy to help facilitate pickup with your agent as above and just as happy to receive your wire transfer. New to eBay? 10 or fewer feedbacks (or more than one negative)? Contact me directly before bidding, please. QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? CONCERNS? E-MAIL ME OR CALL 804-357-4926
