Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1956 Chrysler Newport. I have done a little research on the web, but haven't found much..from the net: "WINDSOR SERIES — (8-CYL) — The “100 Million Dollar Look” was carried forward with a tasteful face lift centered around grille changes and integrated taillamps. The two-piece grille of 1955 was redesigned with a look reminiscent of the FliteSweep I show car. Three horizontal grille bars floated within a chrome surround. The new taillamps formed a natural extension of the uplifted outer rear bumper ends. The Windsor line had some further subseries that covered all body styles. A pillarless four-door hardtop was introduced and 12-volt electrical systems were adopted for all Chrysler models. Standard features included Oriflow shock absorbers, new safety door latches, independent parking brake, safety rim wheels and center plane brakes. I know that the Newport name was used to designate the 2 door hardtop body style in all of Chrysler's line up in the 50's. I believe this is a Windsor body style. What throws me is the 300 badges on it. The previous owner says that this was a performance addition to the Newport line...The 331 Spitfire engine shares the 331 hemi block with semi-hemi heads. It also had a dual exhaust system and dual point distributor. It also has a high reving 2 speed pushbutton automatic transmission that is also included in the auction. Has power steering and power brakes. The steering pump is on the back of the generator! The car has some unique options like a cowl vent, tinted glass, power seat, and windshield visor. He purchased the car in 1986 and drove it for approximately 8 or 9 thousand miles until the motor blew. It was then parked in the fall of 1986 in dry storage and has not seen the light of day until last week. While driving the car he rebuilt the brakes and the front suspension. The 331 was removed from the car and taken apart to see the damage. The heads and crankshaft were unfortunately recycled. I do have the original block, but it will need a couple sleeve. Many of the engine parts are in the trunk, including the carb, air cleaner, brackets, manifolds. etc. Some problem areas with the car are naturally the chrome. Also the door handles are known to break on these cars and both are on this one. They both have been modified and work though. The passenger window is cracked, and the chrome window channel is rotted, but still works. Missing an emblem on the drivers quarter panel. Some stainless trim is loose. There is a hole on the drivers front floor but only the first floor layer. The bottem of the core support is rotten on the drivers side. Also, the cardboard is missing in the glove box. The horn ring is broken. The tires look like they were new when the car was parked, they have plenty of tread and don't seem dry rotted. Original full size spare and bumper jack are also included. The exterior chrome has some shine left, but will need to be re-done. The interior chrome is good, will just need some polishing. The am radio was also rebuild back in 86. The interior is original and will need re-done or a Mexican blanket? No carpet. The dash was painted black at some time. The glass is pretty good, with a rock chip in the windshield on the passenger side and a crack on the passenger's door glass. The rear windows have a unique way of rolling back and tilting down. The body itself is in good shape. It will need rocker panels and repair around the battery box. The trunk floor is very solid even the spare tire well...Frame is really nice. Windsor tail lights are common in the custom world and the hood on this car in stock form is really custom also...This car is really a solid car with a lot of potential for putting it back on the road and having fun with it, or a great restoration project. Extra parts included are a steering box, radiator, alternator, and new brake parts. Not too many lower priced 2 door hard tops from the 50's out there to be had. Please ask questions before bidding. I have many more pictures or I can take pictures of what ever you would like to see. I know how hard it is to buy a car on the Internet. I have purchased several via ebay, and been on the winning and loosing end of deals. I respect my ebay account and don't want to do anything to jeopardize my feedback. I am describing this vehicle to the best of my ability (and typing skills will allow) Please contact me and have a 3rd party inspect the car to make sure it is what you want. Winning bidder must pay a $500 deposit within 3 working days of the auctions end. Car is sitting outside, so the quicker it can be picked up the better, but I have a big yard so it can also be stored with prior confirmation. Car must be paid in full within 14 days. Car will not leave premises until funds clear. Clean Ohio title. The mileage on the title as it claims that it is over the mechanical limits. Previous owner claimed that is inaccurate but does it really matter on a project from 1956? With some elbow grease, this will be a great looking cruiser. Check out my other auctions, you never know what I might list next.....
