Up for auction is this stunning 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado Deluxe. This was the introductory year for the handsome new Oldsmobile Toronado, Motor Trend Magazine “Car of the Year” for 1966. This straight Southern California black plate car is finished in the beautiful factory Autumn Bronze color with Black Morocceen interior. This car was purchased new at Century Oldsmobile in Van Nuys, California in October of 1965. The original owner’s manual and factory protecto-plate booklet are included. The unique space-age show car styling of the Toronado is coupled with the incomparable 385 horsepower Rocket 425 cubic inch V-8 engine with Quadrajet Carburetion. This powerful engine is mated with a unique Turbo Hydra-matic transmission with direct coupling to the differential providing power to the front wheels. This was the first production American car since the Cord of the 1930’s to be equipped with this setup commonly known today as “Front-Wheel Drive.” The total Toronado first year production was 40,963. This rust free Toronado has undergone an extensive professional cosmetic and mechanical restoration. The car was disassembled and media blasting was then done to the body and undercarriage to remove the original paint. It was then meticulously prepped, prepared and repainted in base coat clear coat and polished to a gleaming smooth finish. The bumpers and rear tail light panel have been replated. The stainless steel trim was removed and polished to a very high standard. The front windshield has been replaced with a new OEM tinted windshield. The car was then reassembled and new weather stripping was installed around the doors, roof-rail and trunk. A new set of Coker Classic narrow redline radial tires on polished factory chromium wheels give the car a very distinguished look. The seats have been reupholstered in the original factory pattern with the correct black Morocceen vinyl. New black factory type loop carpeting was installed. It even has the original built in driver side floor mat. The black headliner was also replaced with factory type material. The matching black dashboard, door panels and interior chrome trim are in excellent condition with few imperfections. The power windows all work well. The interior courtesy lights are all in working order. The trunk compartment has been fitted with a new lining and a reproduction factory type Oldsmobile trunk mat and the original jacking equipment and spare tire are in place. The smooth and powerful V-8 engine was tuned and and runs strong. The transmission was rebuilt and shifts effortlessly. The carburetor was rebuilt and the water and fuel pumps were replaced. A new radiator was installed. The heater core was replaced. The fuel tank was removed, cleaned and reinstalled. The automatic headlight door vacuum canisters have been rebuilt and the system works well. The suspension is tight and the car tracks and brakes straight. The detailed engine compartment includes new factory style hoses, hose clamps and a new under hood insulation pad.
