Vehicle Detail

A really solid Sun Valley. These were only produced for 1 year and are extremely hard to find, especially a rust free low mileage one like this one. This car is NOT a restoration, rather a sensible driver car that looks original but has modern drive train. Under side, pans, floors , fenders, rear quarter panels, trunk and floor are rust free. Clear title showing 34510 actual miles. The car runs and drives great. Ive traced the history as best as I could: According to the last owner a frame-off restoration was begun about 20-30 years ago. It got as far as remounting the body after the frame was sandblasted, repainted and all new brake and fuel lines were run along with a new fuel tank. The ball joints were replaced along with tie rods ends at that time. All the brakes etc were rebuilt and new suspension rubbers installed. The body was stripped and repainted the original Spring Time yellow then remounted using new body biscuits and bolts. The car originally had power windows , the original owner didnt like them and replaced them with manual window doors. After the body was remounted something happened and all work stopped. The car sat at the body shop for another 10 years or so when it was sold. That owner kept the car for another 8 years. He in turn sold it to a dealer who I bought it from. The windshield, rear window and all the side glass are new having been replaced during the initial restoration, they all go up and down fine. , unfortunately I cracked the drivers side vent window when I was trying to install the vent window locks, When I got the car it had an old bench seat , rear seat, rear door panels and no interior top trim.. Luckily I found a 54 donor car and got all the correct Sun Valley interior trim and plastic roof. I managed to gather everything else I needed and completed putting the car together. My wife calls the car "Franken-Merc" because over 50 mercurys gave up parts for it. DRIVE TRAIN: I removed the 1960's Y block and 3 speed manual transmission the prior owner had installed and installed a 1987 5.0 roller motor and AOD transmission along with Edelbrock aluminum heads, valve covers and manifold. 4 barrel carb, Lokar trans and accelerator kits, polished aluminum oil pan, CVR shorty water pump and pulley kit, Pro Products harmonic balancer, 100 amp alternator, electric fuel pump, brand new dual exhaust with turbo mufflers, brand new drive shaft, aluminum radiator with electric fan, all new radiator and heater hoses. Brand new dual circuit master brake cylinder, new 12 volt battery and cables. The weight difference between the 5.0 and the Y block was a lot, the car sat 4" high in the front. I installed new Ford Aerostar front springs to bring the cars ride height to what you see in the pics. INTERIOR: new plastic top gasket, new front door panels, rebuilt heater box with new core, new (NOS) heater motor controls and switches, new under dash main and accessory wiring harness, new engine compartment wiring harness, I replaced the old instruments with brand new modern ones, a 55 Deluxe steering wheel, I modified and installed a new 1955 Ford turn signal and harness. I used a 8 way power split bench seat for the front and matching rear seat from a 87 Crown Victoria, new carpeting, new scuff plates, new headliner, sun visors, rear view mirror, new roof rubber molding, new door rubber molding, new window "fuzzies", new vent window rubber molding and dozens of other interior and exterior parts. THE BAD. The prior owner used silicon RTV in addition to the trim mount parts to install the exterior trim, you'll need to removed the sloppage from the trim, the car sat so long outside the passenger side door has bubbles spots on it at the front bottom ( see picture) The top is an original and has the usual spider webbing. These tops are available brand new for $800.00 if you want to change it out but it suits me fine the way it is. I couldnt locate the correct plastic top chrome Sun Valley rear top trim so I used a 54 Skyliner, it looks fine but its not "correct".I have the original bench seat and rear seats if you want them. Ive put about 1000 miles on it and it runs and drives great. The car is reasonably priced as a "resto-mod" daily driver and priced to sell not at 25, 35 or 45 thousand like others are that are either garage queens or you will be too afraid to take out and drive . . Please, no low ball offers the price is very low already. trades considered. Dont pass up a really rare and fun to own car and drive.IF YOU USE THE "BUY IT NOW" option I will include a brand new $1000.00 power steering conversion kit at no extra cost, remember this offer is for BIN ONLY I can store the car for 30 days for you until you arrange transport. Shipping is the buyers' responsibility.
