Vehicle Detail

Stunning 2002 BMW 540i (E39 body style) with one of lowest miles in USA is being offered for sale. The car has 59205 original miles and is in pristine condition. Carbon Black Metallic (SCHWARZ) on Black leather interior, 4.4L V8 engine, and 6-speed manual transmission was rated at 290 hp and 324 lb-ft of torque and are in excellent condition. Clean Title, drives like new, Mechanically perfect. No check engine light, a few dead pixels on outside temp reading. AC ice cold. Newer front and rear summer sport tires, brakes are good. Meticulously maintained, never been in any kind of accident (See Attached CarFax). All original paint. *Always garaged and worked from home so barely seen winter conditions. Absolutely no rust anywhere (see underside pictures). I am the 2nd Owner purchasing the vehicle in Chicago in June 2008. Original owner used the car as a second vehicle in the suburbs and only put 16k miles on it from 2002-2008. Since purchase, I have driven 43,000 miles averaging only 4,300 miles/year. Kept in stock form (no mods except window tinting) and was meticulously maintained during my ownership by Joe Perillo BMW in Chicago which is one of the nation’s premiere BMW Dealers as well as a top BMW-certified mechanic who left a dealership to start his own shop. I have fully traceable, printed records that date back to 2008 and the 2002-2008 records from the original owner are stored and can be retrieved at any BMW Dealer Network computer giving you access all the way back to Day 1 of purchase. Parts are very accessible and you need to pay dealer rates or find a great mechanic to keep enjoying the car.–This is a special car. Not a typical KBB expressed value listing. For a particular buyer who appreciates this opportunity.–With these types of cars, you can spend a bit more upfront for one you can count on that’s well maintained and ready to go on a long trip…or find a “deal” or “bargain” and not know how many times you’ll be seeing the dealer jacking up the true price you paid for the car after 2 years. Just like Real Estate, do you want a turnkey or a fixer upper?–If you’re thinking of joining a local BMW club full of Beamer enthusiasts who love to show off their rides, talk performance and mods, great driving trips, driving schools, hitting the track, DIY tips, and all the other benefits of being around like-minded BMW lovers, this car is a sure-fire conversation starter because of the E39 body style! My Elevator Pitch to BiddersIt's with a heavy heart that I am putting my beautiful E39 2002 540i 6-speed with 59k miles up for sale. People have been asking me since I bought her if I would sell at the right price and I always said the same response, "I appreciate you asking, but I will drive her until it's time for the scrap yard". As you can read for yourself on BMW enthusiasts’ sites like bimmerforums or your local BMW Club, this body style & engine combo along with 6-speed is very coveted by the people who love them...and people who sold theirs often joke about regretting it years later. As people with much deeper understanding mechanically about this series than myself, they commonly say there is no better sport sedan DAILY DRIVER out there...especially under $20k. The only reason why I'm selling (begrudgingly - ha) is because my company offered me a promotion with a one year minimum commitment to relocate to open up and run a new office for them to a place I cannot bring my car. My BMW dealer's head mechanic, who has 10 years of his deep knowledge of my car's maintenance records, says it would be borderline criminal of me to store it for a year without turning over the engine and I should put it in someone's hands who would love an E39 of this caliber. I am a Private Seller so I'm writing a much longer descriptive listing since I've driven every mile myself for the past 10 years and know the car inside and out. I’m listing everything I know about my baby as well as properly representing the condition and showing in pictures all minor Cosmetic blemishes I see as of the day of this posting. Overall, there are only a few typical front and back bumper scratches from parallel parkers, one 1" scratch on the hood, one 1/2" scratch on the passenger back door, and one minor bump on the trunk edge you can only see in the right light. I elected NOT to use touch up paint to keep it all original. Mechanically, the engine and transmission are just as strong and thrilling as the day I bought her. Ask anyone with this V8 engine how you can take on and off-ramps at 65 and hold a line like a 911 and the infamous 3rd gear that feels like a rocket ship on an open highway. You can go from 40-100 so quickly your head hits the headrest and makes you feel like a teenager again driving your first sports car. In addition to the quick response going through the gears, it’s also very smooth and you can accidentally find yourself going 80 because it feels like 40mph. I know this all sounds corny to the reader, but test drive one locally to see for yourself how much fun this car feels each and every time you're behind the wheel. As I write this I already miss her and she's still in my garage! I want the lucky, highest bidder to be confident that s/he bought a super fun and reliable toy that perhaps s/he would venture to take a memorable road trip bringing this baby home! I promise you will be in love with your purchase by the time you get back home knowing you invested in the RIGHT E39 that will hold up really well mechanically and hold up it’s value! This is a great car that has a lot of life left in it since these cars can go 200k+ miles if well taken care of. These E39's are already rare and becoming harder to find. If I missed something or you have any questions, please feel free to contact me because I want this to go to the right owner who's happy with our transaction. I am located in Southern CA. Best of luck to all bidders! Thank you for taking the time to read my listing. Just notice as they talk during their test drives that they can't stop smiling feeling the engine immediately respond under their right foot! Below I'll list 2 links of informed reviewers, but check out anyone you want. The E39 is the last of a special breed and becoming more difficult to find in great shape with low mileage. Independent TestDrive Review (Check out the 4:35-9:24 section & 10:24 marks to see the V-8 power of the 540i!) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6RcbWtg-XM Test Drive #2 on YouTube (Check out 3:28 mark for interior description) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiiMehdmUA0 Bidder’s Comments on another Auction website:1) I love the e39. Have owned one and driven about 20 of them. It’s the pinnacle of BMWs – perfectly blending comfort, handling, tossability, ergonomics, and long-distance cruising. 2) For the cost of admission, you will not find a better automobile. There are 100’s of good resources on the internet for these cars. Use these for resources and DIY projects but it is recommended that you get to know a good independent BMW mechanic. If you can get it for around $15K you will have a fantastic car that will out perform newer cars costing $50K+.3) I’m not sure that there will ever be a 4-door sedan that is as clean and timeless as the E39’s. Driving one of these with a manual is sublime.4) As the current owner of an E39 540i/6, I’ll lend my bias. These are terrific cars, but if you’re going to buy one, you want one like this (other low mileage listing, 2017)...and you will be money ahead by paying a premium for low mileage. These are well at the bottom of their depreciation curve, so you see these in the hands of inexperienced drivers who have no clue how to maintain them. As a result, clean and well cared for examples are getting few and far between and those with the 6-speed, even fewer and farther. Edmunds' Expert ReviewEvery vehicle in the 5 Series lineup is a wonderful car. If you can afford to buy one, we recommend that you do. Sure, there are other great cars out there in this price range; we just think this is one of the best. Vehicle overviewThe 5 Series follows BMW's fine tradition of embodying a "true driver's car" and is offered in four flavors for 2002: the base 525i, the mid-level 530i, the top-level 540i and the high-performance M5. In addition to the sedan body style, a wagon is also available in 525i and 540i versions. A 2.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine that makes 185 horsepower moves the 525i models. This base model comes with a standard five-speed manual transmission, or it can be optioned with a five-speed Steptronic automanual transmission. Step up to the 530i, and you get a 3.0-liter inline six that makes a healthy 225 horsepower at 5,900 rpm and 214 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. Under the hood of the 540i sedan and wagon sits a 4.4-liter 32-valve V8 that manages 0-to-60 times in the low 6s. With 290 horsepower at their command, these Bavarian barnstormers are a blast on the open road. The powerplant comes mated to either a six-speed manual or a five-speed Steptronic automanual (the 540i Sport Wagon comes only with the auto) for those who find the BMW stick-shifts a bit too demanding in stop-and-go traffic. The suspension is pleasantly firm on this lively model, making even the most docile of drivers feel like Michael Schumacher. As one would expect in a top-end luxury/sport vehicle, equipment levels are first-rate. Standard fare includes a 10-speaker premium sound system, car and key programmable memory, dual-zone air conditioning, eight-way power adjustments with memory settings and cruise control with steering wheel controls. All-Season Traction Control (AST), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Dynamic Brake Control are standard on all 5 Series cars. Standard safety equipment includes dual-stage front airbags, door-mounted front side airbags and head-protection airbags for front passengers. The optional Rear Side-Airbag package also includes head-protection airbags. Three-point seatbelts at all seating positions, impact sensors that unlock the doors and activate the hazard lights in the event of a serious accident, remote keyless entry, two-step unlocking, coded drive-away protection and a vehicle security system are also standard. To list all of the 5 Series' luxury options would take more space than we have. A few of the more noticeable ones include a Cold Weather package with heated front seats, Park Distance Control, a navigation system and 17-inch wheels with performance tires. The 5 Series continues to be one of our favorite luxury cars currently offered. No matter what you are looking for, something in this lineup will likely suit you.
