1966 HONDA CL160 ("Scrambler") ** CLEAR TITLE **The title VIN matches the bike's frame VIN ** NO RESERVE ** Note: besides the bike, this auction includes $400-$500 dollars worth of spare NEW CL160 PARTS, some of them NOS. See 'new parts' section, below, for a list. They are also shown in the photos. The description below is divided into 6 sections, as follows:> Condition of the bike> History of the bike> New parts that are included (also seen in the photos)> Used parts that are included (also seen in the photos)> Paperwork/manuals that are included> The fine print I am happy to answer any questions. _____________________________CONDITION of the bike_____________________________Very Good condition considering this is an unrestored 1966 vintage bike. The bike starts when cold in 2-3 kicks. It is tuned reasonably well, and idles fine. It does not stall-out or hesitate when the throttle is suddenly opened wide. Once warmed up, it runs steady (it does not surge or fluctuate), and sounds healthy. Plug color is correct. The engine runs crisply and the bike accelerates like a 1966 160cc should. The bike shifts smoothly and correctly through all 4 gears. The clutch works as it should (with the clutch pulled in, you can put the idling bike in gear and it does not stall the bike). Everything works including horn and brake lights. The bike is not missing any parts as far as I know (except that the skidplate is not mounted, but it is included, see the used parts section below). There is no metal rot or fatigue on the bike. The bike is straight. In other words, the frame is straight. The peg-bar and pegs are straight. The handle bars are straight. The brake pedal and shift lever are both straight. The brake and clutch levers are in their proper shape, and the tips are not broken off. The bike tracks straight when ridden. It does not leak fuel when the petcock is closed (I rebuilt the petcock). It leaks 2 or 3 drops of gas per hour when the bike is off and the petcock is left open. Rebuilding the carb float seats will most likely fix that. The bike comes with carb rebuild kits and new floats for the buyer to install. It does not leak oil when cold. Once the bike warms up, it leaks a drop or two of oil per hour from around the gear shifting spline and will continue to do so until the engine has cooled fully and sat for awhile, and then the dripping stops. The bike comes with a complete gasket and seal kit so that the bike's new owner can fix such things. The tires are brand new. It rides very smooth. The sprockets are new (15/35 - JT). The gearing is high enough for local street travel. The original sprockets (16/48) are included but worn out. The chain is new. The peg-bar and pegs are new (the original bent one is included). The brake pedal is new and shiny (the original bent one is included). The bike looks very good especially considering it is a 1966 unrestored scrambler. Once you get up closer than 8 feet you start noticing the small scratches and small dings. The left side cover is almost perfect but the right side cover has lots of dimpling. The tank looks undented at first glance, but upon close inspection, you will see 3 or 4 very small dents (you can feel them with your fingers easier than you can see them). That pipe rocks! The exhaust system's yummy chrome is in great shape, with only one minor dent (hard to spot, near tip, on the outside), and a few minor scratches that you have to really look to find. No chrome is flaking on the pipe. It sounds great too. The chrome on both tire rims is speckling all over, but the chrome is "not too bad" and is still plenty shiny. There is one spot on the front rim (about 2" long, and a half inch wide) that has lost its chrome, and a couple more spots the size of a pea. You can see it in one of the front rim photos, it is on the bottom right of the rim as seen from the left side of the bike. The chrome is sparsely speckled on the handlebars and on the existing headlight rim. However, he bike comes with a new headlight rim, see the 'new parts' list below. The swingarm moves through its motion as it should and is not loose or sloppy. The steering head moves through its motion as it should and is not loose or sloppy. Headlight low-beam is burnt out. However, he bike comes with a new replacement bulb, see the 'new parts' list below. The cylinder has never been bored and is using the standard sized piston/rings. The engine runs reasonably quiet (no obvious piston slap). Front and rear brakes work as designed. The kick start lever has been replaced with one that looks almost new (the original one, which is also included, had a stripped spline seat). New rubber on kick starter and shift pedal. New rear-view mirrors (the bike did not have mirrors when I bought it). Passenger pegs are included (in decent condition). Fork boots have no rips or tears and look great. The centerstand needs to have a dime-sized tab created by a welder in order to limit its range of motion so that the centerstand doesn't interfer with the chain. Currently I am using a hose-clamp as a temporary solution. The speedo cable is in bad shape and needs replaced. The speedometer works but occasionally the needle jumps around unpredictably. The shock springs are squeaky when the shocks are bounced. I have not taken the shocks apart to inspect. The shocks move freely up and down through their full motion and do not bind. The forks are quiet and move through their full motion and do not bind. The underside of the handlebars (hard to see) has a 2" spot that is missing the chrome and is a bit rusty. _____________________________HISTORY of the bike_____________________________The bike's history (3 owners total since 1966): Bought in 1966 by owner #1. I have a copy of the original (1966) Washington state title. Sold to owner #2 in 2005. Owner #2 cleaned it up and got it running. He rebuilt the speedo unit, thus resetting the odometer to zero at that time. Sold to owner #3 (me) in 2012. In the 6 years that I have owned it, I have put 105 miles on it. That is what the odometer reads now. I made it my missions to > acquire all the missing parts, > to replace damaged and bent parts, and > to service and maintain the bike as a reliable "rider". I was successful in those missions. It looks, runs and sounds nice enough that when I take it for an occasional spin, I always attract someone that wants to talk ALL about their first Honda and tell me how the CL160 sounds so sweet to their ear. The bike gets started once or twice a year, fully warmed up, and ridden a few miles. Mostly, my thrills have been from tracking down replacement parts via the internet for anything broken, bent or missing. See below for details. The bike is at a turning point. It can remain an occasional rider, a fun bike to maintain.or It could be restored - a winter project for the right person. It is time for me to pass it on to that person. _____________________________NEW PARTS, INCLUDED but not installed yet:(in addition to what is mentioned above)All parts can be seen in the photos too_____________________________oil-side engine cover and o-rings, NOS (shiny! and not cheap) mag-side engine cover, NOS (shiny! and not cheap) headlight ring, NOS (shiny! and not cheap) 2 spark plugs condenser contact points set 2 carb rebuild kits 2 carb floats extra fuel tappet parts brake shoes complete engine oil seal and gasket sets headlamp front brake cable Fairing: a wind deflector ("National Cycle Deflector Screen") that fits this bike IS INCLUDED (new, in box with mounting hardware). They look just like K&N chrome racing filters, but there is no brand stamp on them, so I can only guess. WHEELS:The wheels are true, no wobbling, no dents, no broken spokes.
