RE-LISTING - NO RESERVE I'm "Re-listing" my Alfa Romeo 164L with NO RESERVE The bidding on the original listing was close to the previously set "Reserve" but I understand that many buyers have to account for "transport" fees and that is bad for me; it takes away the true value of the vehicle. So; I considered "transport" fees, considered the eBay "fees" and rather than setting a "Reserve" simply started the bidding off (below value) but what I would be willing to accept. Please read the entire (somewhat lengthy) description and consider buying, owning, investing in this true classic. Thank you. NOTE If you don't want to go through the waiting, "Bid - Out Bid - Bid Again" process and want to make a "Buy It Now" offer, feel free to but once a bid is placed, this option is not available. 1993 ALFA ROMEO 164 L Going to tell you all I know and everything that's right and needs a little TLC with this "Classic" Alfa Romeo 164L I picked this car up at the end of December, 2017. Trailered her home, pulled it off the trailer and drove her to my local Alfa Romeo tech. He went over it, changed all the fluids, did some tightening of any loose clamps or whatever and gave her a "Good Bill of Health" (Commented on how "Clean" she was) with some minor needs which I will note below. I then brought her home; put her in the garage and was waiting until the Ohio Spring kicked in; didn't want her to be driven in the snow and salt roads. While I was waiting for Spring; my buddy calls me (another "Car Guy") and says that a car he has had for some time and I have been after him to sale me is going up for sale bad timing on my part. So; I have to get rid of one of my toys before I buy the other car. Since this Alfa Romeo 164L is the newest; well she's the one that is going up for sale. The Alfa Romeo 164L is in extremely good condition. I bought it off a "Classic Car" dealer and they were the second titled owner but really I am the second owner. They did a Car Fax check and it came back clear. PICTURES The pictures attached are both ones that I took and the ones from the dealer - dealer pictures look so good I used them but the car looks exactly the same - trailered her home, not driven. GOOD Extremely Clean - Great Body (no damage except for one area - above rear well lip - will need some attention - common bad spot on these cars, nothing major) Great Paint (shine)Great Interior - Full LeatherFull Power - Seats, Mirrors, LocksSun RoofExceptionally Clean Engine Compartment / TrunkTires and Wheels in Great ConditionFull Spare (donut-original)Original Took KitRadio - FM/AM/CasetteTinted Exterior MirrorsNice / Next To New TiresOriginal Owners Manual and Card This car is a true "Head Turner" and you won't have another pull up next to you on the highway - getting rare to find. With the Alfa Romeo being re-introduced to the US market these are going up and value and "Collectability". Consider this an "Investment" not just a purchase - joy to drive vehicle. If you check out the value do a "Classic Car Value" check and not a Kelly Blue Book; Hagerty is a good site for a valid car value check. WHAT IT NEEDSRear Radio Antenna is broken off - needs repaired but the radio still comes in clear. Tech noted that the rear Anti Lock Brake Wheel Sensor is hanging up (possibly from sitting) and needs replaced; I was planning on doing this come spring - cost approximately $300.00 The "rear wheel lip body" will need looked at; again it is a common area where the body needs attention - nothing serious but I want to describe the car as best as I can. These models are known for exceptional body longevity (galvanized) but that one section is prone to some damage. It can be fixed by anyone who is handy with minor body work but based on the cars' exceptional condition, I'd have a professional do the work. Below is all the information you should need. She's a great car and I was planning on enjoying her on a daily basis but I can't miss out on the other car that was offered to me. TRADES Although I need most of the cash I'm asking for the Alfa Romeo 164L I will consider "partial trades" (I'm a car guy, we always look at what's out there) just to help out any potential buyer; such as: classic (small size) motorcycles;ATV; boat; other older classic cars; something I can enjoy and have fun with. Thanks for taking the time to read all this and if you have any questions please drop me an email. On Feb-26-18 at 07:29:11 PST, seller added the following information:REVISION Truly appreciate all the emails and questions. Let me response to the majority of them via this "Revision". 1. The car is in extremely good condition. It is 25 years old and you just don't find many 25 year old cars in this condition let alone an Alfa Romeo 164L. The quote that I am the "Second Owner" of the car is based on the fact that the "dealer" purchased it and was the "second titled owner" but simply put it up for sale and then I purchased it. I have the "original" owners manual and "Owner's Card". I attempted and will continue to do more research on the car, try to find out more of it's "History". 2. We all know that the "timing belts" on the Alfa Romeo V6 engines need maintained and changed about every 30-50 thousand miles. I'm not sure when or if this "timing belt" was changed but based on my techs inspection (he said he wouldn't do anything with it at this point) and based on the "condition" of the car, and the fact that not many hands have touched it, also the original owner was a female (don't accuse me of being anti-women mechanic, I'm not) I'm assuming that the maintenance (belt included) was maintained and changed when/if needed. 3. I realize that you may find some Alfa Romeo 164s out there for $2K- $3K or less but do your research. The 1993 had a lot of upgrades (mostly metal improvements) and the ones for the cheaper price usually need paint, mechanics, tires, been through 3-4 owners and have high mileage. You may buy them cheaper but by the time you get them up and running, looking good, well you in fairly deep. This one is ready to drive and show. It's what I call a "Wash-N-Wax" classic. 4. Finally; I'm selling the Alfa Romeo based on what I stated in the description. I've been after the other car (friends car) for years; he wasn't going to sale it; I was looking for an Alfa Romeo 164 after doing some classic car research, seeing that they are "rising in price and collectability" and found this beauty. So if she doesn't sale, well I won't get the friends car but won't be disappointed owning this beauty. I hope this answers most questions; you won't be disappointed with the Alfa Romeo and hey; if you want to shoot me an "Offer To Buy It Now" I'll entertain all. Thanks for looking and "Good Luck"On Feb-27-18 at 07:23:40 PST, seller added the following information:REVISION Many emails asking me what the "Shipping" would cost. My response: There are many shipping companies out there and I even think that eBay can assist on this; they list shipping services. Also: If the distance isn't too far (east, south, mid west) I can assist; I will put the Alfa Romeo on a trailer (open) and deliver it based on $0.75 per. mile (round trip based on "Google" map search - my zip code is 4406). On Feb-28-18 at 07:01:20 PST, seller added the following information:REVISION Why the 1993 Alfa Romeo 164L is an "Investment" Received a number of emails asking me "Why" I believe the Alfa Romeo 164 is becoming a collector car and "Why" I believe values will be rising. I base my position on what I see in the "Collector Car" market; and what collectors are looking for. Add to the fact that both Hagerty and Hemings believe the same and they are the experts to go to in my opinion. Here's a quote from the Hemmings Alfa Romeo 164 article: At 21 to 25 years old, the Alfa 164 is just approaching the transition from offbeat used car to collectible. With the return of Alfa to these shores after a long hiatus, the older models will undoubtedly begin to capture more interest. This could be the ideal time to get into a 164 and enjoy a fun, well-engineered, great-sounding car from a marque with an amazing history. Get the best-serviced example available, take care of it and a 164 may very well prove to be a fun way to spend time behind the wheel and in the garage for another few decades. Now just to add to the value of my 1993 Alfa Romeo 164L, and considering the condition she is in; take a look at the "production" numbers - compare the 1993 to others. As I stated; talk about a fairly "rare" car/model; I believe purchasing a well maintained, well taken care of, limited ownership transfers 1993 Alfa Romeo 164L is simply a smart move: Production1991 - 3,5001992 - 1,7201993 - 7131994 -'95 771Total - 6,704Note: Figures for U.S. imports onlyOn Mar-03-18 at 13:38:01 PST, seller added the following information:REVISION - INFORMATION UPDATEA number of emails asking me my position on the value of my1993 Alfa Romeo 164L. I placed the value of this car on market research, opinions from car "experts" and valuation tools provided by organizations who deal with classic. Below is the most recent valuation from Hagerty, one of the leaders in "Classic Car Valuations and Conductibility": Current Values#1 Concourse - $16200 #2 Excellent - $ 9,900 #3 Good - $ 7,400 #4 Fair - $ 5,000 I'd put my Alfa Romeo 164L in the "upper" Good to Excellent condition with not much, based on it's originality (second owner) not far from the "Concourse". "RESERVE" is below the above valuation. Great "Hagerty" Alfa Romeo 164 article if you car to read Alfa Romeo 164Many Americans were likely surprised to see Alfa Romeo ads in last weekend’s Super Bowl. Our non-auto-enthusiast friends who can even recall the brand in this country most likely remember their sportier offerings. While we certainly appreciate raucous Italian sports cars, we know that the Milanese company has a long history of performance coupes and sedans, like this 164.This was the last model that Alfa Romeo offered before abandoning the U.S. market in 1996. Unlike the new rear-wheel drive Giulia, this model was front-wheel drive and shared its platform with the Saab 9000 (along with Fiat and Lancia models never offered for sale here). Unique to the Alfa, however, was the spectacular 3-liter V-6. I drove one of these extensively when they were new and I still recall the sound of that engine… and those chrome intake runners, che bella.Fairly rare, only around 6,000 164s were sold in the United States from 1990-1995. This example, a base L model differed from the sportier S by 17 horsepower (183 vs. 200), less bolstered seats and add-on body cladding. This car appears to be in amazing original condition and who could argue with red?The Pininfarina-designed body was cleanly styled in all of its square-edged purity. The interior was equally interesting and bespoke, marred only by a Chrysler-sourced stereo head unit and an automatic shifter.
