Vehicle Detail
1986 CJ7 with 10,800 original miles We looked for almost 2 years for a cj7 and drove thousands of miles before we finally found this one. Originally owned by an older couple who used this to plow there drive and to pull around a trailer and do yard work at there house. It was stored in a heated garage and has always been garaged since new. After the husband passed a gentleman who restores bronco’s got ahold of it. He pulled the body of the chassis and did an excellent repaint in the original color to the body only. It had a dime sized rust spot starting to pop under the driver side door. This thing is STRAIGHT! He also blasted all the suspension and repainted it. The underneath was rhino lined as well as the interior floor and the lower part of the tub to about half way up the wheel wells The interior still sports the original paint and seat covers. He was going to use it to plow at his business but it was just to nice of a Jeep to be plowing with. He drove it very little and found a bronco to restore and that’s where I come in. I bought this for my wife she has always liked the cj’s over the newer jeeps. We drove it for about a year. Then because I can’t leave anything alone I decided to mechanically make it ride and drive like a newer late model car. First thing I did was to install Howell fuel injection along with a davis hei ignition The next step was to give our kidneys a rest and replace the entire suspension system to a more modern spring, shock etc. I choose to go with the rock granite arb suspension system which replaces all the stock suspension. Then onto the steering. They really missed on the cj’s as far as steering and how to mount the box etc. I installed a new agr steering box along with recommended agr pump to go with it. I also installed a new rugged ridge heavy duty mounting bracket to fix the steering box mount issue. The change in the ride and handling can’t really be described. It rides and drives like a modern vehicle period. No more bracing for bumps, white knuckles, or worrying about flooding it or keeping up with traffic on the interstate . No shortcuts on this one. I spared no expense and picked what I thought were the best parts I could find regardless of cost. You will not find a nicer Jeep! There is a quarter sized surface rust spot on top of the rear wheel well where the loom runs to plug in the brake light for the top Whatever they had to hold the loom in place got moisture trapped under it hence the rust spot. While this Jeep has never been off-road it is now certainly equipped for it with all the new parts. We never thought we would sell the Jeep but we are looking to buy a plasma table so we could use the space. I’ll try and list all stuff that has been done as well as parts Body pulled from chassis and entire Jeep blasted suspension etcExterior repaint: rhino lined underneath and interior floor.
