Vehicle Detail

We have here an original 1966 BMW R27 single cylinder 250cc motorcycle. It is a non-running “barn find”. Steel rims. Speedo is in kilometers. 26,098 km on the odometer. Bench seat. Denfeld luggage rack. My plan was to get it running as is. You don’t see many original bikes and I think that’s what makes this one pretty special. But I didn’t get very far. I did start to clean up the chrome bits. I also change the oil (without dropping the pan) because I wanted to be able to kick it through without drawing old oil into the system. The old oil was like what you’d expect out of any bike: it was dirty but not lumpy and there was no water. Here is a rundown of the good and the bad. The Good: This bike is complete. As near as I can tell, every single nut, bolt, etc. is there. (Except for the fuel lines and battery.)It is original to when it was built. The pinstriper’s initial is even under the tank.Serial numbers match on plate, engine, and frame.I have a clear Illinois title in my name.It has compression (using the thumb test).Gas tank is solid with no rust at the seams. It has a rare, unbroken, after-market side stand. The Bad: There is no spark. Not sure why. The foam in the seat is dry and brittle. The cover is good, but it sheds bits of dry foam every now and then.It hasn’t been run in years. So no idea when slingers were done. But at the same time, it has only 26,000 kilometers (that’s 16,000 miles) which puts it under normal slinger service. The Ugly: There are small chips in the paint on the fenders. The other paint is dull and oxidized. The plating on the wheels is heavily rusted. It started to clean up in some parts, but not in others. The engine and gearbox are stained and oxidized. The Fine Print: A $100 non-refundable deposit is due at close of sale. Overseas buyers are blocked. I will unblock individual buyers with proof of a shipper.Full payment is due within 10 days. Paypal, USPS money order or certified bank check are all acceptable means of payment. Please contact me before making full payment.Buyer is responsible for shipping. Arrangements for pickup must be made within 10 days. Bike must be picked up within 30 days. I’d recommend using a reputable shipper that will transport the bike in an enclosed space. Or take a road trip and pick it up yourself. It will fit in most vans. Please contact me with any questions about the bike or sale terms. I’ve bought and sold a few bikes remotely, so I’m happy to walk you through the process. And if you know someone in the area, feel free to have them stop by and check it over. Good luck and thanks for looking!
