Vehicle Detail
I purchased this 1989 Honda VTR250 new here in PA. It is a one-owner, never abused, barely used example of these great little 250s which were introduced to compete with the Kawasaki Ninja 250s in production racing. It comes with the original tool kit and also the owner’s manual still in its vinyl “document bag”. The mileage is 1147 miles – all of them careful adult miles. It has never been to a track day or been raced and has never spent a night outside my attached, smoke free garage nor been ridden in the rain. The bike is very clean. The battery is only about a year old and is always on one of my battery minders. If you are familiar with this model you need no introduction. If not, it would be best to go online and check it out – it’s sort of unique. This thing is a water-cooled, V-twin, 6 speed, 331 pound (dry weight) sport bike which doesn’t redline until it gets up there toward 14,000 rpm. It is, like many Hondas over the years, a well thought out, wonderfully technical bike which is really fun to ride. The front inboard disc brake system alone (only used for the first model) is always good for a discussion with other riders. I have a clear PA title. Payment must start with a $500, non-refundable, Paypal down payment within 24 hours of the purchase. The balance must be received and successfully cleared before the bike can be picked up or shipped; cash or cashier’s check preferred for the balance within 7 days of the purchase. Personal check will be accepted but you’ll have to wait until I’m sure it has cleared before the bike will be released. If you’re a PA resident, I will run the bike through an inspection and put a new sticker on it for you at no charge (only if you have already completed a title transfer and can provide proof of valid insurance). The buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs. I will be available to provide access to the bike for a shipper of your choice whenever it would be necessary but I will not crate or package anything and I will not aid in loading the vehicle. Obviously local pick up is no problem. There are some issues I want to be sure to document in this description even though they are minor for a 28 year old bike. In my eBay sales, I like to point out even minor issues so there is no misunderstanding: 1) The photos tell the story best, please check them carefully. The bike is in wonderful cosmetic shape, but if you look carefully and close enough in person, you can find minor scuffs and scratches here and there. There are some small cracks developing at the screw hole in the left side cover. That said, however, you will not be disappointed – the bike looks absolutely great and could easily be mistaken for brand new from any real distance. 2) There was a 0 speed tip over years ago. My wife once stopped while in a slight turn as she was rolling down our driveway. She wasn’t strong enough to prevent a slow motion high-side, but was able to control it enough to lay it down very gently. The only result is a small scuff from the driveway on the edge of the fairing. I have always been tempted to try a simple cosmetic repair but I fix cars and bikes for a living, I don’t do body. It wouldn’t take much to cover the blemish, I just never decided what would be best to use. 3) At one point the bike was left sitting unused for quite some time with a half-empty tank (yeah, I know) and developed some interior rust. I took the tank off and had it professionally cleaned out and sealed. I also removed the carbs at that time and cleaned out the float chambers and all passages, paying special attention to the pilot jets, and I installed an inline fuel filter just in case. The petcock was also cleaned out and tested. Everything works fine – the bike starts and runs great although these Hondas are VERY cold blooded and need full choke for some time before they warm up enough to start reducing the choke. It was like that from new. 4) Although all the lights, horn, etc. work fine, the turn signals are slow to begin working. I suspect the inside of the switch could use a cleaning although once they begin to work they work fine. I’m sure this would sort itself out if the bike was used regularly. 5) The bike is all original (except for the added fuel filter) which means the tires are as well. They look great – surprising for their age – and could be used to gently putter around now and then. But, if you intend to really RIDE the bike, you need to fit new rubber before then. 6) Again, all of that said, we’re not talking about anything major or worrisome here, except for the 28 year old tires. It is no longer registered, insured or inspected so I have not been able to road test it nor are any road tests allowed. But I did run it up the street and back and it runs, shifts and stops as it should – no disappointments. Check out my feedback and you’ll have no worries about bidding – it includes a GTO, a Norton Commando and a Triumph Street Triple – and everyone went home happy. I only sell on eBay for fun or if I have a personal vehicle to sell, it is not my business. I don’t want to mislead or defraud anyone and I want to keep my perfect feedback score so if you have a question during an auction or a problem after a purchase, contact me immediately and we’ll work together to make it right. Also, please check my other sales as my brother and I have come into a number of vintage items while cleaning out our Mom's house, including Snap-on and Bonney tools plus Honda and Norton cycle parts. Except that I guarantee the description and photos to be accurate and of the exact item offered, there is no warranty or return policy for this item. Any shipping charge listed, including “free shipping”, is for the lower 48 states only. Feel free to check the fine print: Bidding: If you bid on an item and there is a problem please contact me with any issues before leaving any feedback. We will work it out to your satisfaction. Conversely, if you bid on an object I consider that a binding contract to actually purchase the item. Non-paying buyers will force me to start an unpaid item case against them. Shipping: I ship usually within one or two business days after your payment clears. I pack carefully and ship on time. If it is not a “free-shipping” item, we will never charge more than the quoted postage amount. We ship the least expensive way possible. The choice of the type of shipping will depend on the item. We will ship the item faster at increased cost if you require – just communicate that requirement before paying for the item. Unless indicated otherwise for a specific item, all shipping is limited to the lower 48. I do combine shipping where appropriate. Payments and Concerns: Paypal only within 3 days of the auction’s end. If you are unsure of the total, let me know promptly and I’ll send you an invoice. If you fail to pay within the 3 days and do not contact me with a reasonable explanation, I will open an unpaid item case. I don’t do this to be mean to anyone, only to allow me to relist my item and avoid a “sold” fee. It will almost certainly negatively affect your feedback. I am honest and conscientious and expect my buyers to be as well. If you have any questions before the sale or problems after the sale, please contact me through eBay and I will respond. Thank you. Returns I do accept returns on some items – it will be indicated clearly on each item whether there is a return policy on that particular item. If so, please notify me within 7 days that there is something wrong with the item you purchased. I will respond. Then you have 14 days after the purchase date to return it to me in its original condition at the time of the listing. I carefully examine all returned items to be sure they were not damaged in shipping or while in your possession. If the item is in “as-shipped” condition and is not satisfactory when returned, I will return your purchase price through Paypal. I will do this honestly and fairly; I wish whole-heartedly to retain my feedback score and keep the buyer happy. Return shipping, however, is at the buyer's expense unless I misrepresented the item in a gross way. I will ask you to cancel the transaction through eBay so I don’t incur a selling fee.
