Vehicle Detail

This vintage classic 1971 Triumph Daytona 500 T100R is in outstanding semi-restored condition. It's a solid original matching-numbers survivor with a professionally rebuilt engine/transmission/clutch, a rare NOS Triumph tank (painted in 1971 in the Triumph factory in England), new period-correct K70 Dunlop tires, new made-in-England headers and mufflers, very good to near-show condition original chrome, and much more. It runs like it did in '71 and needs nothing. I had the engine, transmission, clutch and fork seals rebuilt by Classic Cycles Ltd in Baptistown New Jersey, a highly regarded specialist in vintage Brit bike restoration. The work was completed in October 2015 at a total cost of $4316. A scan of the first page of the receipt is included in this listing. The buyer will receive copies of all documentation, which details parts replaced and work performed, including: - dissasemble engine and transmission and clean and evaluate all parts- install new main bearings, bushings and needle bearings- polish connecting rods- hone cylinders- install new Hepolite piston rings and circlips- glass bead cylinder head, grind valve seats, install new valve guides and new Black diamond valves - replace all gearbox bearings and bushings and kick pawl- replace primary chain- replace clutch hub center- install new friction plates- remove, clean and flush oil tank and repaint- install new Boyer ignition and coils- install new battery- replace fork headset bearing with tapered bearing kit- flush and clean and replace fork seals and seal holders- install new breather hose- install new rocker caps The Daytona literally runs like it would have in when new. It usually starts on one kick except in winter. It runs strong, fast and clean with no smoke or oil burning, and will hold an idle indefinitely even when hot. The transmission shifts cleanly and firmly through all gears. It is well sealed and will not drip oil on your garage floor like so many old British bikes do. I replaced the original carburetors with new correct and genuine Amal 626's. These provide very even performance and have an extended "tickler" which keeps gas from getting on your finger. This T100R had been in storage for a while before I bought it. The paint on the original tank and front fender was faded however the previous owner had a NOS Triumph factory-painted tank in Olympic Flame (burnt orange) and black with white pinstripe still in the box and I bought it with the bike. (photos of the tank in new condition as I got it are included in this listing). After the rebuild I put the NOS tank on and replaced the original steel fenders with a good used set of stainless steel fenders from a 1971 Trophy. I still have the original fenders and will let them go with the bike as long as they are picked up by the buyer. I've included a photo. Both would need to be repainted to match the tank. I had the Smiths speedometer and tachometer professionally rebuilt with the odometer was set to "0" to indicate the miles since the engine/trans rebuild. The odometer wasn't working when I bought the bike and the previous owner estimated the mileage to be about 14K but I have no way of confirming this. The bike has 758 miles on the odometer as of June 23. I'm still riding it locally however the mileage will still be under 850 at the time this auction ends. All lights, directional signals, horn, charging system and brakes are working properly. This Triumph was originally sold and titled in New Jersey in 1972 and in keeping with NJ Motor Vehicle practice at that time it was titled as a 1972 even though it is the 1971 year model. It is currently Antique-titled and registered in my name in PA. I'm willing to sign the antique tag over to a PA buyer if desired as long as I don't have to make a separate trip to a notary. I've included many high resolution photos to illustrate condition. Please study these carefully and ask any questions before bidding. This isn't an over-restored machine - it still has minor cosmetic imperfections that are subtle indications that it is a 46 year old classic. As the photos show the seat is in excellent condition with no rips or tears. As typical, there's some acid staining of the paint on the underside above the battery however the pan is completely solid and in excellent condition. This motorcycle is being sold as-is where-is, with no guarantees or warranty expressed or implied. Seriously interested persons are welcome and encouraged to inspect it prior to bidding. The Daytona is located in PA zip 19350 approximately 1 hour from Philadelphia or Baltimore and 2 to 2.5 hours from New York City or Washington DC. I won't ship this vehicle and prefer pickup by the buyer, but will work with the buyer's shipper on a mutually convenient schedule on condition that the bike is picked up within 2 weeks of the sale. If you have any questions about pickup or shipping please contact me through the eBay message system. I posted an iPhone video shot June 22 on YouTube showing the Daytona starting and running from cold.
