Vehicle Detail

Rusty is being relisted because Missourian kenyodunca-3, the high bidder, never responded … so we should all pray for him because he obviously suffered some devastating traumatic event that prevented him from completing this transaction, or even responding to messages. Bless your heart, kenyodunca-3. That sad preamble out of the way… It starts, runs, stops. In that order. This truck personifies the old GM maxim that GM vehicles will run badly longer than other vehicles will run. So… it starts (even after sitting idly for weeks), it shifts, it stops. It does all of these things adequately and safely. Other than that, assume that nothing else works and you won’t be disappointed. No, really, assume nothing else works. Anything that appears to work just isn’t getting with the program. Also, it has body rust (see pictures) and the interior is somewhere between “dirty” and “disreputable.” I thought about cleaning it. I also thought about exercising more and eating more fruits and vegetables. All these thoughts will go unexecuted. Accompanying the truck are brake pads, shocks and an AC compressor, which may or may not be for a 1990 Chevrolet truck. There might be other parts under the seat, but lacking eye protection I am unwilling to look under there. Something might be looking back. It’s on eBay and not Craigslist because buying a $600 (+ or -) truck should be treated like an arranged marriage. You’d pass it by if you were to see it in person, but if you buy it sight unseen then you’ll just make it work. I bought it to move Large Things and mulch (note that the three yards in the bed have been unloaded and do not convey, but the blue tarp does) and it is now surplus to my needs. It has new windshield wipers, a Haynes repair manual and ½ a tank of gas, which between them account for about 20% of the truck’s value. The tires (just 4, no spare) are round and have tread and do a passable job of holding air. It doesn’t appear to leak anything important, and does not leave a smokescreen behind it. It smokes a little at start-up on general principle. Driving it is like riding an old horse, only slightly smellier. But by golly it can carry a lot of stuff. So, if you need something big and dumb and that has the charm and sophistication normally found in Cold War era Russian mining equipment, and that will eventually drive itself to the junkyard, then “Rusty” is for you. It’s a great truck
