But after having spent several days cleaning it up, and a brief Facebook post, I've realized that it needs to be back in the bus community and on the road. I'm told it was re-painted about 10 years ago, and then stored inside. When I collected it over last winter it was under snow. According to the licence plate, it was last on the road in BC in Sept 98. The exterior panelwork is amazingly good with minor bubbling coming through at lower levels. The best bits about the van are the exterior panelwork, the bumpers (very straight), the pop up top (only a small 1" tear on the front panel), the rear seats, the sleeping pads, the curtains (sun faded in places), hub caps, and the dash. Known missing items include the battery, front seats, stove & sink unit, steering wheel boss, spare wheel, wipers, front VW emblem, rear lights lenses and backs. Poor Condition items: The underside though has some serious but fixable corrosion, most notably to the outriggers, the side rails, the rear crossmember (hence why bumper off) and the floor pan where the original sink was. A quick check on www.SIP1.com reveals that outriggers are available for between $40-$50, cargo cross members for $140, centre metal tubes for $140 and such like, so nothing massive. The engine compartment seal is perished, the battery floor area corroded, and all tires are inflated and rolling but not usable) The fuel injected engine turns over (with a battery from another vehicle) but it doesn't fire. It seems to be all there though. A brief check showed no spark. The fuel tank hasn't been cleaned, some new gas was added. The speedo shows 68,000 miles, but that could be way off. Spares: A small number of spares are included with the van, including a third bumper (slightly bent), door panel skins, 3 jacks, old seat covers, 2 hubcaps and some interior parts, all as per the photo. Some parts were repositioned merely to show their inclusion. Location: the van is currently stored at a Sunshine Coast BC property, 2 hours north of Vancouver, BC, Canada via a short 40 minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale. Vehicle inspections may be made during the 10 day auction period but no offers will be accepted until close of auction. To view, please email martin@lifecycle.ca to make arrangements.
