Vehicle Detail
A truly great "barn find". I found this car in a barn in La Cienaga, NM where it had been stored for years. This car is New Mexico car and as great example of a solid, great running original '53 as you'll ever see. A smooth running Flathead V8, "three-on-the-tree" manual overdrive transmission shifts smoothly , the overdrive works great. Just had the car taken down to the base metal and painted "Sungate Ivory" which is Ivory with a hint of Yellow, all the interior trim and dash were also painted, the car looks terrific and the paint is brand new. The car had no rust and no body damage except for slight pinholes in the lower rockers. the pans, trunk, fenders and doors are solid all the windows operate smoothly, the heater/defroster works great, windshield wipers work as they should, in fact everything on the car works just fine, even the radio worked. The prior owner had installed a great running 255 Mercury flathead V8 with 90 pounds pressure in each cylinder,PCV conversion, idles at 50 PSI oil pressure with no leaks or knocks. This is the first flathead Ive ever had that does not run hot, in fact in the 90 degree weather we've been having the engine runs at 170 degrees all day long. All the upholstery, carpet and headliner were done at a topnotch shop in Santa Fe to OEM standards with cloth seats, door panels and headliner. I installed a new Offenhauser aluminum 4 barrel manifold, a 390 CFM Holley 4 barrel carburetor with electric choke, a brand new spin-on oil filter conversion, converted from 6 volts to 12 volts with a new 1 wire 80 amp alternator, brand new double action fuel pump, every inch of underdash and engine compartment wiring was replaced with all new underdash and engine compartment wiring harnesses, all the original gauges work ( converted to 12 volts) new turn signal mechanism and harness, new horn wire, brand new Police Heavy Duty 10" clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing ( standard is 91/2") resurfaced the flywheel, installed a new rear transmission seal and all new overdrive wiring. New white wall tires, the car starts and runs terrific, the overdrive works great, the car drives smoothly and just glides along. The brakes work fine. New roof weatherstripping, new tinted glass front/rear windshields with new gaskets, the tinted side windows are all in great shape, no cracks or fading. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere, fly in, drive it home. The car had power steering but the prior owner removed it and converted the car to manual steering which is not "heavy" the car steers and turns fine with very little turning effort. Very reasonably priced for a car of this quality. If you want them I will include the original manifold and carb, two spare 3 speed overdrive transmissions, spare overdrive solenoids, relay box and governors. Also for those of you who have asked, Sungate Ivory is an OEM 1953 Ford Victoria color ,Color Code "L" on the picture of the Warranty tag , the green on the roof is also OEM as is the interior trim which is Seafoam Green. The tires are Hancok 205 R75 15" , and yes, you can drive this car home it starts, runs and drives great. The Reserve is low.
