Vehicle Detail

Here is my 2001 A8 L (long wheel base) that is in excellent condition and has been a great car. I am the third owner and have owned the car for nearly 4 years. I purchased it from the second owner who used the car to commute from his home in CT to his home in FL. Even though the miles are very low they are still mostly highway miles. It has been my daily driver. This is my third Audi A8 over the past 15 years so you could call me an enthusiast I guess. These are great cars and if you are considering buying one there are some important things to know. First, like any German car maintenance is king. There are critical services that must be done, the primary one is the timing belt. Audi says every 100,000 miles or 10 years (whichever comes first) for the 4.2 engine. The compete timing belt service includes all the rollers, tensioner, water pump and of course, the belt itself. This car had the full timing belt service done by an Audi tech with all OEM parts at 60,000 miles 2 years ago at a cost of over $2,000. I also had the aluminum oil cooler pipe installed at the same time. Even though the oil cooler was fine, the original plastic pipe in the oil cooler in the 4.2 engine usually fails and begins leaking coolant (and/or oil) around 100k so changing it to the aluminum pipe eliminates that problem down the road, and the perfect time to do it is while the front of the car is off for the timing belt service. The Carfax and Autocheck reports are squeaky clean. There is no accident history and there is no evidence of any collision repairs. All the glass is OEM Audi and original except the windshield. The windshield had been replaced at some point by a prior owner. There is one rock chip repair to the lower passenger side that is warranted by Safelite. The tires all match and are very good (approx 70%) but not new, and I just had a four wheel alignment done at Beckley Automotive here in DSM. They looked the vehicle over top to bottom and found no issues besides a weak tie rod end that was replaced right away. The front brakes were measured and reported to have approx. 60% pad left and the rears were the same. The spare tire is in excellent shape. The scheduled 75k service was just done as well - which includes new spark plugs, new air filter and misc. other bits. The transmission was serviced by the prior owner at 50,000 miles and has been flawless. The engine gets new Mobil 1 0W40 Euro Synthetic oil and a new OEM filter every 5,000 miles. The car runs great and everything important works as it should. Options include a PhatBox music interface, suede headliner, heated front and rear leather seats, solar sunroof, Xenon headlights, dual pane acoustic glass, and all the standard Audi luxury features. Being the L version the best seats are in the rear. The Carmel colored interior is hard to find and the best interior color they offered IMHO. The exterior is very, very good. The black paint is deep and glossy. There are a few small nicks and scratches and two very small dents in the rear and one below the door guard on the passenger rear door. So small they are difficult to get to show up in photographs. Some very small rock chips in the front. No rust ever with an A8 because the entire car is made from aluminum so it's lightweight and incredibly strong. The A8 is one of the safest cars on the road. Quattro All Wheel drive means it's great in the snow and handles amazing in all kinds of conditions. Why am I selling? I found a newer Audi S8 that I just had to have, so this one needs to find a new home. I intended to keep this car for a lot longer than four years, but the siren song of the D4 was too much to overcome, and limited garage space dictates one must go. This car has all its maintenance up to date and should be ready for the next owner to drive and enjoy with only basic maintenance to do for a long time. Beware of cheap A8s with deferred maintenance as they will quickly become very expensive cars to own. This is a 16 year old car, so some light wear is evident but for it's age I'd say it's still a very nice car and gets a lot of compliments. It starts, drives, stops, turns and runs out beautifully and I would not hesitate to take this car on a cross country trip. The Air Conditioning works perfectly and there are no leaks. The 4.2 V8 engine runs buttery smooth and pulls effortlessly all the way up the tach. I can show the car to serious buyers. Im not interested in trades and don't need help selling. If my ad is still up, it's still for sale but it is advertised locally so I could end the auction early if it sells. Yes, the book values are super low - I know that. But not many of these cars are bought and sold every year and most that are being sold are being sold will substantial deferred maintenance. This car has all the known A8 issues already dealt with and the maintenance is entirely up to date, plus the super low miles means lots of life and miles left to enjoy this Flagship Class vehicle. Since this is a 16 year old car - there is no warranty expressed or implied and the vehicle is purchased as-is, where-is. Thank you for viewing my auction.
