For sale is an extremely well preserved 1953 Pontiac ( tin woody ) 4 door Chieftain wagon.....could just be the nicest unrestored, untouched tin woody body you will ever see....no dents, not even a ding!, 99% rust free....after you have viewed all the other tin woody wagons around this price and then notice how they all typically need extensive body and floor repair because of rust and 63 years of exposure, you can have this one with a practically perfect body!..read on...the color you see is factory colored primer..there is almost no surface rust anywhere on the body This wagon was stored and covered inside an aircraft hangar for 47 years ...the body has been carefully sanded to remove the original paint and leave as much original factory primer as possible.....the original soapstone factory assembly line markings are still clearly visible on the firewall....there appears to be essentially no bondo or body work that has ever been performed, nor will anything more than just the basic paint prep of sanding and lite blocking be necessary in preparation for new paint. The 1% rust present in the entire car is confined to about 5 holes in the floor, each about the size of a pencil eraser....this wagon is totally unmolested, and in unaltered original condition! The door, fender and tailgate fitment/alignment is outstanding....the car is more than 95% complete The previous owner said the matching number straight 8 motor was rebuilt but never run many years ago...it remains very clean and shows that work was previously done....everything is original....correct seats and door panels still wear original factory upholstery material to use as patterns..tiny imperfection in windshield, flat door glass replacement sets are readily available....if a streeet rod build is considered, you could illiminate the small vent window and use a single flat glass piece for a much smoother look....we have not tried to start the car since we received it....this is a great candidate for a modern drivetrain restoration and nice tin woodys can sell for well over $25K....this is as nice a starter as you will ever find..We understand why this one is so rust-free after being so sheltered for so many years...here in California tin woodies needing floors and other rust repairs sell for the asking price or more...we have "sold" it 3 times already locally for $8500, but amazing stories of excuses were told when it came time to pay in each instance, so we posted here so that people in other parts of the country who could likely never find one like this will maybe have their financial act together, purchase and hopefully complete the transaction....$6500 is the bottom line price....there is not a better deal on any tin woody anywhere at this price...we dropped the price because we want to help the homeless who are even more challenged with the current rain storms that have left so many in even more difficult situations here in California. This project is very complete...front and rear bumpers with guards, all of the interior garnish moldings are present, the seats, the exterior trim, ...we are including a beautiful set of dog dish hubcaps that are New Old Stock, never been installed that cost $450 and nice used original rear skirts that cost $250 for the pair The car currently rolls on a set of brand new thin whitewall radials...the only things missing are the door window regulators, door flat glass and door handles/locks....we were going to install aftermarket power windows with shaved door handles and remote poppers.....somewhat less expense, far easier to install....for the purist who wants to go all original, the used pieces needed are not difficult to locate online...may be the same as 53 Chevy, not certain. Yes, you may find a tin woody or two for sale for slightly less money than the asking price for this beauty.....rest assured it's got rust issues... these wagons were/are always prone to problems in the lower front fenders, door bottoms, roof drip rails, lower rear quarters, lower tailgate and lower liftgate, as well as notorious for floor issues including the spare tire well..all of which typically require costly and time consuming replacement labor and materials......this wagon body is in amazing condition and requires essentially no body work whatsoever....a major savings of money, time and trouble well worth the difference you may initially save by buying another less expensive money pit, as most rusty cars become ....it will be an outstanding investment based upon the current popularity of these wagons...can be very easily returned to a total original or is also an incredible opportunity to build a one-off custom street/resto rod...surf's up!
