Vehicle Detail
Vintage German Motorcycles is pleased to offer this original 1941 BMW R12. This motorcycle was just pulled out of storage 2 days ago after being hidden from the public for some time now. Here are some of the details of the BMW R12 motorcycle. The engine is a matching case halves motor, this is a plus among collectors and engine builders. The cases left the factory together and are still together. The Engine number is there BUT I question its authenticity. This is a running motorcycle according to the last owner. He claimed to put new JP pistons in it and a top end job. We have not started the motorcycle as of yet. If you look at the photos of the engine block you can see the lip on the bottom where it meets the frame is perfect, usually this is always broken. The overall condition of the motor on the outside is great. Some fins are broken on the barrels as well which you can see. The transmission goes into all the gears and appears to be ok. The transmission shifter ball is original. The shift gate is also original and they have done some sort of repair to it at some time during the motorcycles life. The left knee pad looks to be original, I am not positive. I also noticed on the transmission it still has the original lock on the tool box door. The motorcycle frame is in excellent shape from what I can see. No major welds or field repairs at all. It has the original tan paint under the gray paint. I have sanded off in the 4 areas looking for the original frame numbers and was unable to locate them. It’s very possible it was a replacement frame which is not uncommon. This is a Military frame, it’s been reinforced from the factory. The fenders are original from what I can tell. Finding original sheet metal is almost impossible. Also the rear fender still has the original BOSCH reflector on it with the correct round head slotted bolts. The SUM carb is Original and still has the 1940 Wehrmacht data tag on it. This is a very expensive item. The driver’s seat is all original and has a tear in it. I would suggest just replacing it as it will tear more. The front and rear axles are both original and have the markings on them both. Another nice original item to still be on the motorcycle. The rear license plate bracket is all original, it’s missing the JN7 BOSCH light but the base is all original. The gas tank is very clean inside and with a proper cleaning it can be perfect once again. Under the tank is the correct wire mounting tabs. The dampner handle and parts are all original. This is actually a very early handle and sought after. The handlebars are risers are NOT original to the bike. I am going to include a good set of BMW R12 handlebars to the new owner. The magneto advance and the headlight high low switch on the left side of the handlebars is Original and correct. The headlight is Russian and belongs in the trash can. The front brake and clutch levers are original and correct. The front brake plate is original and looks good. The rear drive looks good, except the small gouge in the bottom of it. The gears are 11/57 on the output shaft cover. I also noticed the correct bolts that hold that cover on, another plus. Overall this is a great project motorcycle, it will require a full restoration. We offer this as is, no warranty at all. Parts are plentiful on the market for these motorcycles. We also sell Vintage German Motorcycle parts for DKW, NSU, Zundapp and BMW. This motorcycle comes with a Bill of sale only. It does not have a title. We can arrange shipping anywhere in the USA and the buyers expense. We ship motorcycles all the time Worldwide. Payment is due within 3 days after the auction ends. We take only the down payment in Paypal, the balance is to be paid in CASH or bank transfer. You are welcome to come get the motorcycle in person if you are local.
