I initially wanted to bring this back to life like I did for my 75, but I have parted ways with my intentions and I am offering this great specimen to someone else out there. The back story. This was brought to NM from California about 15 years ago. It was initially purchased in Jacksonville, FL in 1970. The owner brought 3 VW's to NM and she kept the oval bug. :) I bought this bus, as it sat, not running for the last 14 years. So 17 years later and it is still in dire need of being brought back to it's original beauty and functionality. Upon taking it home, I put some gas, a battery and checked the oil. There were no keys, but I managed to remove the ignition switch to crank it over. Compression is great, as the previous owner said it was driven to where it was parked, with no problems. I drove the bus around my block and upon parking it, I revved it up and managed to bend a pushrod on #4, which then damaged a pushrod tube leaking out some oil. I was happy it ran solid and I left it at that, knowing I didn't need a motor or transmission. Yay. Sticky valve was a great problem, no knock, no grinding. :) 3 years later, nothing has changed. I pulled off some parts to prepare for body work and overall restoration, but I didn't pull any drivetrain components. I'm not sure of the exact engine size or any other details that get revealed on a legit teardown. Clean title in hand, in my name.
