Vehicle Detail

Are you looking for an exceptionally rare, classic 1960's workhorse? Do you enjoy waking your neighbors every time you take a drive to the store? Do you want to drive a truck that makes you feel like a MAN? Well... If you answered yes to all of those, then this is the truck for you! The Jahnsen family (long time Studebaker Drivers' Club members) have asked me to list their '63 Stude Diesel 1 ton truck. Feel free to send an ebay message with any questions, or call Mike and Nancy at 636-575-8448. Please be sure to leave a message if there's no answer; they'll get back to you as soon as they can. They've enjoyed this truck for the last 15 years, and feel it's now time for it to find a new, loving home. Between production years 1962 to 1964, Studebaker tried to expand their truck offerings by including a series of trucks equipped with the General Motors Detroit Diesel engine. Sadly, Studebaker was a couple of decades ahead of the market, and these "light duty" Diesel trucks were not a huge sales success. Fifty years later, that makes these trucks a rarity for collectors and enthusiasts. These trucks don't come up for sale very often, so here's your chance to own a nice one. Finished off in Apache Red, this has to be one of the nicest Studebaker Diesels out there, and currently the nicest one for sale this week. This is the smallest Studebaker Diesel built; a one ton chassis with a 143" wheelbase. Only 65 of these trucks were built; and only 33 of those were for Domestic production. There are less than 10 known to survive. The owner tells me that the odometer reading is just a little more than 20,000 miles, and he feels that it's representative of the actual mileage. The truck was restored by a Chevrolet dealership in 1991, and it was owned by them until the current owner purchased the truck in 2001. Having the truck for the last 15 years, it's seen some light use on the family farm, but has mostly been kept indoors and maintained. The truck starts, runs, and drives. However, having not seen much use over the last few years, the brakes are currently down. The owner suggests a full brake system overhaul before taking the truck out on the road. The tires are also getting old, so it would probably be wise to put on a fresh set of sneakers, too. Cosmetically, the truck doesn't need much, if anything. The paint job has held up well, and there aren't any obvious issues. I'm told that it started its life in Oklahoma, and it really is as solid and rust free as it appears. The grille and front bumper were replaced with NOS at the time of restoration. The truck is equipped with a trailer hitch and trailer brake setup. Just imagine pulling into a Studebaker Meet with your Avanti on the trailer behind this truck... What an impressive rig! As mentioned above, the tires are old and should be replaced. You bet those air horns work...! Right side front cab mount looks as solid as can be. Rust free cab corners. Under the hood is the factory installed Detriot 3-53 Diesel engine, backed up with a 5 speed Direct (no overdrive) transmission. The owner reports that the rear end has been replaced with a later Dana 70. The interior is very clean and intact. The biggest issue is the "modern" cloth headliner that's falling down. The original type headliners are readily available from the Studebaker Vendors, however. The steering wheel has some cracks, but the owner is including a NOS wheel with the sale of the truck. The seat upholstery is original from 1963; and as you can see it's starting to show its age with a few splits on the driver's side. Note the solid cab step... After 15 years of ownership, the owner feels confident that the mileage reading is accurate. Along with turn signals, there's a tachometer with an hour meter. As well as a trailer brake controller. Note the 5 speed direct drive shift pattern. The chassis as a whole is almost as nice as the exterior. As you can tell, this was a very well done restoration, and has held up exceptionally well due to a caring owner over the last 15 years. Full payment is due within 3 business days of the auction ending, and pickup/transport is 100% the winning bidder's responsibility. The truck is located in Cedar Hill, Missouri 63016. Questions about payment, pickup, or shipping should be directed to owners Mike and Nancy, at 636-575-8448. Thanks for looking!
