Vehicle Detail

Make/Model: Ford Thunderbird (T-Bird)Body Type: 2 door convertibleMileage: 92,656 original miles. Restoration History: Restored 25 years ago, still in excellent conditionExterior: Fiesta Red with white soft-top Interior: Black and white vinyl Engine: Factory 312 4bbl 215hpDriveline: 3 speed manual Features: new soft-top, hardtop, original hub caps, new whitewall tires, fender skirts, padded visors, seat belts, new interior, new radio. Marketed as a “personal luxury car,” the first generation Thunderbird was Ford’s response to the sports car like Corvette. Unlike the Corvette, the T-Bird focused on creature comforts and 1950’s style and flair. This 1956 example is the second year for the Thunderbird. There were a few notable changes such as moving the spare tire to the rear bumper, side wind deflectors, and a 12 volt ignition system. This T-Bird was bought new in Pittsburgh and is only on its second owner. The exterior of this T-Bird is in excellent condition. Having undergone a frame-off restoration 25 years ago, it still looks fresh. The paint looks great, having always been kept indoors and out of the rain. There are no signs anywhere of damage or dents. The soft top is new, having been replaced 2 years ago, and there is a hard-top as well. However, the hard top needs painted. The interior of this car is brand new, having just been completely reupholstered in the last 2 years. The black and white vinyl goes with the exterior of the car perfectly. It also features a modern stereo with an aux input that matches the retro style of the dash. The original stereo and speaker are included with the car as well. Power and torque increased in 1956 thanks to a Mercury derived 312 V8. This T-Bird has the desirable 312 with a 3 speed manual on the floor, a rare combination. This Thunderbird drives like a dream. It’s soft and comforting like you would expect from any 1950’s luxury car. There is plenty of power from the 312 and the 3 speed manual makes it a more involving experience. This car was also optioned with no power steering or power brakes. A complete A/C system is included with the car, but has not yet been installed. All the air conditioning parts are factory Ford parts. The 1956 T-Bird looks at home on the Hollywood strip or in West Palm Beach. When it was new it was an instant classic because it was oozing style, character, and personality. In 1956, if you drove a T-Bird you were somebody important. Which is why Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Dennis Wilson (The Beach Boys), Bing Cosby, Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe, John Travolta and many more have owned Thunderbirds. A similar ‘56 Thunderbird was also featured in George Lucas’s legendary Hot Rod movie American Graffiti. So now is the time to buckle up, put some doo wop on the radio, and cruise the strip in this Fiesta Red 1956 T-Bird.
