Vehicle Detail
This bug had been sitting since approximately 1984 before being brought back to life!It appears to be pretty original; it has been repainted in what looks to be the factory grey, and it has the owner's manual in the original (cardboard) glove box! It has the original gas tank, original wiring with the screw-on terminals, and even the fuse box has the paper identifier intact. It has its "clear needle speedo" that is dated 2/60, I believe. It is still a 6 volt, with all that entails. New battery. It has its original "H"" pattern aprons, which look to be in good shape. The headliner has been replaced at some point (pin-point vinyl) and looks good. The door cards and seat covers have been redone in off-white. Carpet shows a bit of age, but is presentable.Floors look mostly original, with the section under the battery having been repaired with metal welded in.This bug still has the "split transaxle" with the "non synchronized" first gear, new axle boots and throw out bering installed. It shifts great!I have paperwork from the early 1980s showing that the front end was rebuilt at about 103k; the inspection sticker showed that it expired soon after, so I would say that the 105k is accurate.Steering is very tight for a bug.Pretty much most of the brake system has been replaced, new master and slave cylinders, soft brake lines, hard line from front to back.Engine is a 1200 cc, might be the original, not absolutely sure. It has good pep for what it is.The fuel pump, distributor, coil, plugs and wires and fuel lines have been replaced. The carb has been rebuilt, but it is not original to the car (it should have a manual choke). The front windshield, seal, and wiper blades were recently replaced, along with the other 3 window seals. This is NOT a show car, it is not a museum piece, it has the quirks and flaws of the old car that it is.The paint is pretty decent -- I will say a "10 footer." It has surface scratches, some blemishes, chips, dings etc... chrome is not perfect. It's a 56-year-old economy car, not a Porsche! Looks-wise, you could drive it as-is; sand through the paint in a few places and have a really nice "patina" bug, or restore it to your liking. It has been driven around the block a few times since being made drivable again; I expect it may need tinkering to get it fully dialed in. It is fun to drive for sure! You are welcome to set up an appointment to inspect the car or ask questions. If you are bidding, you do so to BUY the car; you are not bidding to have the right to come see the car and then decide if you want to buy it or not. Bid only what you can afford, and after you clear it with your significant other, the $500 deposit is non-refundable because if you don't follow through after placing the winning bid, you have wasted everyone's time. This car is being sold as-is, no warranty of any kind. VW does not warrantee their cars for 5 decades. If you want a new VW, go to the dealer. Thank you so much for looking, and bid to win!
