Vehicle Detail
Enjoy the thorough information below. Such comprehensive information/photos/video footage is provided for prospective buyers to be confident that this TR6 is for them. Purchase this vehicle with the utmost confidence. I have sold other vehicles via Ebay nationwide and worldwide with 100% positive feedback. I am a sports car and Triumph enthusiast that has owned other TR6s, and have actually restored one as well, so I am quite familiar with these cars. Intro: For your consideration is this 1973 Triumph TR6 that is non-restored, is extremely solid, and is in nice condition ready to be enjoyed. This is a very presentable vehicle that would be best enjoyed as a very nice original condition driver. It is of the condition it could be taken to club events and shows and presents very respectably, but probably not flawless enough to win trophies. It is originally a Mid-West car but when new was rust proofed/under coated (Ziebart), thus has been preserved, and was also taken care of with primarily being used in nice weather and also having been stored indoors. The frame is impressive condition showing absolutely NO rot. The sheet metal on this TR6 is impressive, not showing rust repair, has solid original floors, solid rockers, and more. The body has received one repaint of its original Sapphire Blue color, code 96. The finish has great depth and a nice shine. The interior presents nicely, is original, and is Shadow Blue code 27. This TR6 has traveled only 67,000 miles and runs very nicely. The engine, transmission, differential, and other components are original to the car, un-modified, and in nice condition. The control arms are in nice shape absent of cracks as is their frame mounting points. The gentleman I purchased this TR6 from had it for close to 25 years. Overall this is a very nice condition and very presentable TR6 that is largely original. It is ready to be enjoyed as is or with some tinkering can be brought up to another level. Please view the 243 photos, video footage, and details below to get a very clear idea of this TR6’s condition. Video: A 7 minute long high definition video is provided to better show the condition of this TR6. The video footage was taken in July of 2016. To view the video please click play below or copy and paste the web address:https://youtu.be/Ac8O6DudHNk Footage includes: 1.) Walk around showing the very nice condition of the finish. Notice the quality of the reflections. 2.) Interior condition and showing doors opening and closing easily. 3.) Start up, idling, and accessories working. 4.) Driving footage showing the car runs and drives as it should, shifts great, and so on. 5.) Close up of gauges during driving to show proper oil pressure and temperature. 6.) More driving including a view along the side showing the quality of reflections in the paint. Images: 243 high resolution images of this TR6 are hosted via PhotoBucket. Exterior: Sapphire Blue is a great color for the TR6. The finish on this example is extremely presentable. Having been recently polished and waxed it shines very nicely and has plenty of life left in it. The blue color is very deep and very reflective. Notice in the video walk around, photos, and especially the photo of the book next to the car, how nice the reflections are. The finish was not of Concours quality when it was first done and is not now either as there is some wear. There are various minor chips and nicks throughout, some minor dings, and some touch up. The front and rear valance have a couple more dings. There is though nothing that really stands out and impacts the car’s presentation or is really noticeable from 5 feet away or further. So as mentioned, it is more of a driver quality finish, but very presentable driver. It truly does shine very nicely, has excellent reflections, and really adds to the presentation of the car. The finish has plenty of life left in it and should look this good for quite some time. One of the most impressive things about this car is how solid the body and frame are. As stated, this car was rust proofed when new and it is well known in the Mid-West that these rust-proofed cars were much more likely to remain solid than ones not rust proofed. The floors are completely solid and are original. They look great both tops and bottoms, front and back, including the trunk. The frame is impressive. There is absolutely no rot or rot repair on it. Many Mid-West TR6’s have holes in the frame under the trunk and issues where the control arms mount, but there is absolutely nothing even close to that on this TR6! The rest of the sheet metal is very nice on this car and extremely solid. For example, the battery tray, headlight pockets, bottoms of fenders, rocker panels, tops of rear quarters, bottoms of the doors, trunk jambs, and etc. are beautifully solid and not showing repair. See the pictures with the milgauge (a magnetic paint thickness tool) on some of these areas. There are some minor bubbles on the rear valance and are the only spot where such bubbles are found. The only panel that looks to have been replaced is the driver front fender probably due to a dinger (not uncommon at some point in a 43 year old car’s life), every single other panel looks to be original to this car and originally solid. The body gaps overall are good on this TR6 and as classic British car enthusiasts know, were never near perfect. The doors open and close very easily and is shown in the video. The rest of the exterior cosmetics are presentable and show some typical wear. The chrome on both bumpers is in great shape and is shiny. There are some dents in the bumpers. The rest of the chrome and brightwork on the car is original and looks presentable. The wheels have been repainted and look great. Trim rings and center caps are overall presentable. The red line tires are newer and look great. The lenses throughout are good and show some typical wear. The grill is good and could look better with some more cleaning. The black finisher piece underneath it could be replaced. Front spoiler is good and absent of cracks. The windshield is great and absent of significant wear. The side windows are good. The rear end has the proper semi-gloss black as does the windshield surround. The white convertible top overall is in good shape and is completely functional. The rear window zips out and the windows are clear. A nice condition tonneau cover is present. The light blue “boot” or top cover is present is well is looks good on the car. Original tool kit/jack is not present but a very nice condition original spare is. The engine bay itself is presentable with original finishes intact. The rust proofing is in the engine bay and if distracting to some, can be removed with degreaser as the original blue is underneath. The overall assessment of this TR6’s body/frame is it is impressively solid, original, and presentable. It can be enjoyed as it is for quite some time. Interior: The interior on this TR6 also is presentable. It shows some typical wear and use for the age/mileage but it can be enjoyed as it is or use a few things to bring it up to the next level. The most significant wear item is the driver seat is worn through in one spot. The foam in it is also starting to disintegrate. It though is still fully usable and comfortable enough. The passenger seat is very nice. The dash pad overall is very good, and is original, with like two difficult to notice cracks at edges. There are no huge nasty splits in it on the top like many TR6s. The wood fascia on the dash also is presentable showing some typical minor surface aging in some spots. The gauges and switches throughout are presentable. The steering wheel is clean and overall looks good. The center console looks good and looks proper with the original, working, radio present. Original shift knob is present! The carpet shows some wear/aging in some spots but is not distracting and is presentable enough. The door cards/panels look good and have a few marks on them. The passenger seat belt return spring needs to be messed with but the driver side is fine. Driver side visor likes to rotate down and can be an annoyance so either removing it or somehow keeping it from rotating down would be advised. Additional black rubber Triumph floor mats are included. The overall assessment of this TR6’s interior is that it is presentable, functional, and can be enjoyed as is. It is nice enough to go with the condition of the exterior. It is definitely quite nice for being 43 years old. Mechanical: This TR6 is not in need of significant mechanical repair. Get in, start it up on the first try, warm up, then drive and enjoy. Very importantly, this TR6 retains its proper, original, and unmodified 2.5L inline six cylinder engine. It is healthy. Pull the choke, start on the first try, every time right away. It maintains its idle. After letting it warm up for about 5 minutes it is ready to be driven. The engine does not blow smoke upon start up or acceleration or deceleration. No odd smells or noises. It runs at a constant temperature with no overheating problems. Note that the video footage is when it is about 90 degrees outside and the temperature gauge is shown with this TR6 maintaining its temperature. It does not consume oil. It has proper oil pressure. Absolutely no significant oil leaks and I would even say no oil drips on the ground from the engine from what I can tell. Spin on oil filter upgrade performed. The engine goes through the RPM range just fine and feels to have appropriate power. It drives quite well. The exhaust is in good shape, no leaks, and sounds nice. Please note the microphone for the video is mounted near the exhaust which is why it sounds louder. There is some slight coolant seepage which looks to be coming from the top radiator hose area. About 100 miles on the just performed oil change. Typical maintenance performed like plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. New battery this spring. Air cleaner and valve cover repainted and look great. This is a very solid and excellent running engine. The transmission on this TR6 is excellent. It is the standard four speed. Absolutely no grinding in any gear going up or down. No clutch issues. No odd noises. The drip that is left on the ground does look to be coming from the trans but it is a minor drip that would not need immediate addressing. The differential also is good and no issues. The steering is fine and feels appropriate for the TR6. The suspension is on the softer side and feels typical among TR6s. The rear lever arm shocks have been replaced with new/rebuilt units. Fronts have been replaced at some point. The brakes work fine and no issues to note other than a very slight pull to the right. Nice looking redline tires are newer and in great shape. There is no electrical funny business going on with this car like constant blown fuses or other goofiness. These cars and their Lucas electrics get a bad rap in that regard. Blinkers, headlights, and brake lights are functioning. Even that annoying door buzzer is functioning. Speedometer, odometer, and tachometer are working great. The other gauges, water temp, oil pressure, fuel gauge, and volt meter also are functioning. This is a get in a drive example. Have confidence in knowing the engine and rest of the drivetrain is good to go as it is and for quite some time. Conclusion: TR6s are great classic vehicles to own for so many reasons. They offer great bang for the buck for top down classic car motoring. Other six cylinder British convertibles are ridiculously more expensive but not necessarily better driving. These cars are relatively simple thus can be maintained by the enthusiast. All matters of parts are quite plentiful and reasonably priced due to support from enthusiasts, clubs, and vendors. Companies like The Roadster Factory, Moss, and Victoria British are great new part suppliers. Most regions have British car shows or clubs which can make ownership more fun. Any classic British car enthusiast will tell you to start with a car that is solid, preferably originally solid. The next most important aspect is that the car is unmodified and retains its original components, more specifically the engine and trans. Next on the important list is the paint being the original color and in nice condition. This ’73 TR6 meets all of those critical aspects. This is an overall presentable vehicle that can be enjoyed and admired as it is, or tinkered with over time to be brought up to another level. Fuel tank is full for the next care taker. Based on what else is on the market, how solid, original, and presentable this TR6 is, I have tried to set the asking price fairly at $11,250. This TR6 has a clean Wisconsin title ready to be transferred to the next owner. Serious buyers are welcome to contact me with any questions or to arrange to see this TR6 in person.
