This was the last year they made them. In fact, this was a late build because it was actually built in the fall of 1987. I believe I’m the third owner. According to the person I purchased it from, he grew up across the street from the original owner, so he knew the car from day one. It was always a central PA car but NOT DRIVEN in the salt. The underbody pics prove this to be true. I have an Autocheck report available upon request. I think this could be classified as a “survivor” – it is very well preserved but it does have almost 44,000 miles, so it has been driven. Therefore it has some minor flaws as described below. To my knowledge the paint is all original except for the hood. The only modifications to the drivetrain is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (because the stock OEM from the auto parts store would not work for some reason), and at one point someone removed the catalytic converter. Otherwise this car is 100% stock. The exhaust appears to be newer. Funny thing it even had all 4 Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires all the way around when I bought it; however I had to replace a pair because they would not pass inspection. The new pair (Cooper Cobra’s) have less than 100 miles on them; however the other pair remains the old GT+4’s. The mileage is documented on the title, and verifiable on the Autocheck report. The condition of the car also supports the mileage. Exterior: The acrylic enamel paint is mostly original and reflects the fact it was garage kept. It has held up fairly well, still shines nicely, but has typical wear for the age….some checking and sap marks here and there. The original owner used a "bra" on the front, which resulted in a few areas where the material rubbed the paint a little on the front plastic bumper fillers. I did not attempt to touch up these areas. The prior owner told me the hood was repainted in the late 90's, and from what my mechanic said he believed the rest of the paint is original on the car. There is a faded spot on the forward-most part of the right front fender, perhaps it was from where the sun hit where it sat in the garage. Not real noticeable except upon close inspection. There is no rust, and no bondo anywhere on the body. The wheels are in good shape with some minor nicks in the black paint near the lug nuts. The underbody is in great shape. There are stone chips behind the wheels along the lower body/rockers. The bumper fillers are still original and mostly decent but I noticed 2 areas that have some cracks, so I duct taped from behind (and glued) to prevent further spreading (below the license plate and the corner piece near the front grille). There are 2 or 3 tiny door dings in the body which could be repaired via paintless dent removal. These flaws must be viewed up close to see them. I should also mention there is some fading of the plastic fender extension on the right rear side; not sure how that happened, and a few marks on the left front plastic fender extension. I am only pointing these things out in the interest of full disclosure. Interior: The interior is stunning, and smells like a new car. Never smoked in. No offensive odors of any kind. The seats are very supportive and comfortable. There are no rips, stains or holes anywhere. Same with the carpets, headliner, and sun visors. The dash is beautiful. Arm rests are like new….no cracks, etc. The stitching in the seats, right down to the Turbo 6 embroidery, is like brand new. The power antenna does not work, so it stays in the upward position. The original radio still works but the factory speakers cannot handle much volume due to their age. For some reason the LED clock stays lit when the key is off, so if the car sits for more than a couple days it will drain the battery. So I put a good quality switch on the battery so this does not happen. The battery is fine while connected if it sits overnight or throughout the day; otherwise you have to use the switch. I recently found a matching radio which I will give to the next owner and hopefully that will eliminate the clock issue. The A/C still blows cold, and still retains R12 refrigerant. The power seat, locks, windows, cruise control, intermittent wipers, rear defrost, etc., all work great. Mechanical: The Buick turbo V-6 is very powerful. Not bad on gas either. The prior owner told me he performed the following within the last year (although I do not have every record to prove), which is as follows: Turbo was rebuilt (see tag in picture) Rear main seal Valve cover gaskets Oil pan gasket Heater core Fuel pump Fuel pressure regulator Coolant Temp sensor MAP sensor MAF sensor Plug wires Intercooler/turbo hoses Fresh coolant and oil change And I put on 2 new Cooper Cobra tires which have less than 100 miles. The car does not leak any fluids to my knowledge. The old Goodyear Eagles still have plenty of tread. The car passed the rigorous PA safety inspection this Spring and is valid through March 2017. The car tracks straight, steering is tight, and brakes are silk smooth. This baby runs beautifully and is ready for show and drive! Overall: If you are looking for a great example of an original “unmolested” Grand National, this one’s for you. The car is gorgeous and gets lots of compliments. This car is so nice, that many people on the street might say the car is “perfect” or “flawless”. The average person may describe it as such-- but for a car collector, there’s never anything 100% perfect unless it was restored. As such, this car was never restored and has 43,912 miles and has some minor flaws described above. Overall, it’s in very, very good condition. I have sold numerous cars on eBay and in all situations I had positive feedback. I attempt to describe each vehicle as accurately and honestly as possible and I do not think you will be disappointed. As with anything, if you desire to bid on the vehicle, I would encourage you to see it physically and drive it for yourself before you bid. It runs and drives excellent and will make a very nice classic for you. If you get the winning bid and are not completely satisfied upon your physical inspection, you can walk away from the vehicle, less $100 of your deposit (to pay for the cost of having to relist on eBay). 1987 Buick Grand National / 3 owners / 44k orig miles / never in salt / garage kept
You are viewing a beautiful, well preserved example of the highly collectible Buick Grand National. This was the last year they made them. In fact, this was a late build because it was actually built in the fall of 1987. I believe I’m the third owner. According to the person I purchased it from, he grew up across the street from the original owner, so he knew the car from day one. It was always a central PA car but NOT DRIVEN in the salt. The underbody pics prove this to be true. I have an Autocheck report available upon request. I think this could be classified as a “survivor” – it is very well preserved but it does have almost 44,000 miles, so it has been driven. Therefore it has some minor flaws as described below. To my knowledge the paint is all original except for the hood. The only modifications to the drivetrain is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (because the stock OEM from the auto parts store would not work for some reason), and at one point someone removed the catalytic converter. Otherwise this car is 100% stock. The exhaust appears to be newer. Funny thing it even had all 4 Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires all the way around when I bought it; however I had to replace a pair because they would not pass inspection. The new pair (Cooper Cobra’s) have less than 100 miles on them; however the other pair remains the old GT+4’s. The mileage is documented on the title, and verifiable on the Autocheck report. The condition of the car also supports the mileage.
Exterior:
The acrylic enamel paint is mostly original and reflects the fact it was garage kept. It has held up fairly well, still shines nicely, but has typical wear for the age….some checking and sap marks here and there. The original owner used a "bra" on the front, which resulted in a few areas where the material rubbed the paint a little on the front plastic bumper fillers. I did not attempt to touch up these areas. The prior owner told me the hood was repainted in the late 90's, and from what my mechanic said he believed the rest of the paint is original on the car. There is a faded spot on the forward-most part of the right front fender, perhaps it was from where the sun hit where it sat in the garage. Not real noticeable except upon close inspection. There is no rust, and no bondo anywhere on the body. The wheels are in good shape with some minor nicks in the black paint near the lug nuts. The underbody is in great shape. There are stone chips behind the wheels along the lower body/rockers. The bumper fillers are still original and mostly decent but I noticed 2 areas that have some cracks, so I duct taped from behind (and glued) to prevent further spreading (below the license plate and the corner piece near the front grille). There are 2 or 3 tiny door dings in the body which could be repaired via paintless dent removal. These flaws must be viewed up close to see them. I should also mention there is some fading of the plastic fender extension on the right rear side; not sure how that happened, and a few marks on the left front plastic fender extension. I am only pointing these things out in the interest of full disclosure.
Interior:
The interior is stunning, and smells like a new car. Never smoked in. No offensive odors of any kind. The seats are very supportive and comfortable. There are no rips, stains or holes anywhere. Same with the carpets, headliner, and sun visors. The dash is beautiful. Arm rests are like new….no cracks, etc. The stitching in the seats, right down to the Turbo 6 embroidery, is like brand new. The power antenna does not work, so it stays in the upward position. The original radio still works but the factory speakers cannot handle much volume due to their age. For some reason the LED clock stays lit when the key is off, so if the car sits for more than a couple days it will drain the battery. So I put a good quality switch on the battery so this does not happen. The battery is fine while connected if it sits overnight or throughout the day; otherwise you have to use the switch. I recently found a matching radio which I will give to the next owner and hopefully that will eliminate the clock issue. The A/C still blows cold, and still retains R12 refrigerant. The power seat, locks, windows, cruise control, intermittent wipers, rear defrost, etc., all work great.
Mechanical:
The Buick turbo V-6 is very powerful. Not bad on gas either. The prior owner told me he performed the following within the last year (although I do not have every record to prove), which is as follows:
Turbo was rebuilt (see tag in picture)
Rear main seal
Valve cover gaskets
Oil pan gasket
Heater core
Fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator
Coolant Temp sensor
MAP sensor
MAF sensor
Plug wires
Intercooler/turbo hoses
Fresh coolant and oil change
And I put on 2 new Cooper Cobra tires which have less than 100 miles.
The car does not leak any fluids to my knowledge. The old Goodyear Eagles still have plenty of tread. The car passed the rigorous PA safety inspection this Spring and is valid through March 2017. The car tracks straight, steering is tight, and brakes are silk smooth. This baby runs beautifully and is ready for show and drive!
Overall:
If you are looking for a great example of an original “unmolested” Grand National, this one’s for you. The car is gorgeous and gets lots of compliments. This car is so nice, that many people on the street might say the car is “perfect” or “flawless”. The average person may describe it as such-- but for a car collector, there’s never anything 100% perfect unless it was restored. As such, this car was never restored and has 43,912 miles and has some minor flaws described above. Overall, it’s in very, very good condition. I have sold numerous cars on eBay and in all situations I had positive feedback. I attempt to describe each vehicle as accurately and honestly as possible and I do not think you will be disappointed. As with anything, if you desire to bid on the vehicle, I would encourage you to see it physically and drive it for yourself before you bid. It runs and drives excellent and will make a very nice classic for you. If you get the winning bid and are not completely satisfied upon your physical inspection, you can walk away from the vehicle, less $100 of your deposit (to pay for the cost of having to relist on eBay).
