Vehicle Detail
1982 GS550 Katana real-deal no reserve auction--last bid takes it. the silver tank shown on the bike we paid $250 for. both of the tanks included in this auction were relined by a tank specialist at $75 each. the nos wiring harness was a $100, so somebody can get this bike free by selling off un-needed bits. The gs550 Kat was part of the same design exercise Suzuki conducted with Target Design in Germany that produced the GS1000SZ Katana and the GS1100E series bikes which led the Japanese take over of the world's motorcycle market. Lots of sellers of 1982 bikes claim 'very rare'. Anything that old is rare! I don't know how many of these Suzuki produced but I'm sure it was fewer than the 750/1000/1100 series bikes. In fact, I haven't seen more than a handful in the last 10 yrs or so. If I had been given the styling commission for the Kat (instead of Hans Muth at Target) I would have used the striking orange powder coat (as seen on this auction bike) on the GS1000SZ bikes. I found them to lack any contrast--sort of like 50 shades of grey. We restored a number of Kats' over the years including a few of the GS550's. (the last couple pics are of a 550 we sold last year for close to $6k so there is a market for the little guy kats. If you want to get an idea of what these bikes look like if done to original standards, you can find more pics at higher res of the bike we sold last year at: https://suzuki-gs-bikes.smugmug.com/1982-GS550-Katana/ some pics for this auction didn't upload to eBay so I've included the link to my photo server: https://suzuki-gs-bikes.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/8-valve-examples/Gs550-katana-jbaby-katN/ We picked up this auction bike as an insurance policy in case we needed something for one of our full-tilt re-do's. Since I've decided to focus on custom bike builds I'm selling off quite a stash of GS bikes and parts; keep an eye on upcoming listings. We never took the carbs off this auction bike or tried to start it but this is what I can tell you about it: - we have clear OH title ready to transfer to buyer- frame appears straight with no obvious crash damage; side and center stands in place.- the motor is complete including carbs (minus some fasteners for side covers, sump - motor turns over freely from the crank nut- the tranny shifts thru all 6 gears- wheels, rotors, calipers and rear shocks are OE (factory orange powder coat traces remain on rotor edges)- wheels are in VGC with no cracks or curb rash, tires are new- forks appear to be un-damaged OE with clean sliders- no gages, aftermarket headlight; new Accel 3 ohm coils and wires- V&H 4 into 1 header, crusty on outside but solid, no leaks; parts include new sealing rings for exhaust spigot's Parts included: - Silver tank mounted on bike is from a GS1000SZ but looks to be workable for the 550 frame.- Black/red tank is a GS550 OE tank. Both tanks have been professionally relined inside and are ready for stripping/refinishing of exteriors.- two GS550 wiring harnesses one NOS has all the correct connectors for the headlight end of the bike; the other harness is used but in good condition and matches up pretty well with the trashy harness on the bike.- some extra engine bits, cam bolt down blocks, a k&n air filter and any other GS550-related parts I find in the parts bins by the time you get out here to pick the bike up! what's obviously missing:no seat or tail sectionno plastic side coversno gages, left handlebar switch, batteryfactory turn signalsfasteners for cases, covers, exhaust manfold Real-deal no-reserve auction. opening bid covers e-bay/paypal and auction prep costs. I don't have a buy-it-now price in mind because I'm always wrong when I try that so I'm going to let you guys bid what you want and we'll let the last man standing win it.
