Ready for Summer? Note: We are Akron Suzuki Works, a 2-bay shop specializing in GS bikes. Staff includes a factory-trained tech with 35 yrs of race track support and dealership experience, a mechanical engineer who has raced, modified and tuned bikes for decades. If you are familiar with our auctions, skip down to the bullet lists below to get the details on this bike. If you are looking for a 'project bike' one that you can spend a lot of spare time repairing, updating and tidying up you can skip this auction. You are bidding on a very well sorted GS. This bike is ready to ride anywhere, right now. Every auction we get a goof-ball or two with an 'offer' that wouldn't even cover the cost of parts that goes into prepping an E for it's 'next 30 years'--let alone the nice upgrades to performance, handling, safety and appearance that we put into these amazing bikes. Our experience with these period super bikes is once properly set up, with proper maintenance they are amazingly reliable. But most examples that clients bring in--even clean, low mile ones--require significant time and money to get well sorted. If you have the expertise and time to sort one out on your own we applaud you for that but if you'd like us to provide you a turn-key E make us a reasonable offer and we'll get you riding straight away. This is not a typical auction bike. We are GS specialists. That's what we do here. If you don't care about anything except the 'year, color and price' that's fine, we understand that but we are not going to be doing any business so lets not waste each other's time. We sweat the details and understand from decades of experience working on these amazing bikes that buyers who appreciate top notch servicing, carefully thought out and executed upgrades--those are our guys (and gals of course)! How many Craigslist ads do you see where the seller asks your height and weight so that the suspension can be dialed in for YOU? This bike has been serviced per Suzuki recommendations including incorporating factory service bulletins. This includes steering head bearing service, wheel bearing replacement, frequent chain lube and adjustment, primary wiring connection soldering, on and on. In addition, we have our own bag of tricks to reduce warm up times, improve mid-range performance and more. The suspension upgrade to Progessive front and rear included a careful dialing in of static sag to improve bumpy-road performance. The Shorai Lithium battery system along with our starting circuit carb tweaking gives near instant starting from dead cold in any weather. Are you getting the idea that we care a lot about the machines we offer? 2015 was the busiest year we've ever had at Akron Suzuki Works. We delivered 3 1982 Katanas (two GS1000SZ's and a GS550 'baby kat') plus several 1100E's, G's and L's. We had many GS fans stop by our booth at Mid Ohio vintage days in July--this auction bike is one of the bikes we had at our booth. This machine has been my personal ride for the past 7 years accumulating about 7k miles in that time for a total of 12k miles from new. It has zero functional issues, completely leak free with perfect electrical and mechanical functionality. In fact, this bike performs better than new in many aspects with improvements to braking, suspension, carburetion, performance, charging and electrics, and cold-weather starting to name several. Just for reference purposes, the last photo in the auction pics is from a 1983 Suzuki magazine ad. You don't see a lot of GS bikes or parts at the vintage days show so I was a bit surprised that we sold most of the sample parts we brought to the show including painted and striped 80-81 GS1100E side covers and body panels, 82-83 GS1100E sidecovers, tanks and body panels painted base clear with OE emblems, OE shocks, seats and other nice bits. I'll be listing a lot of parts and a couple more bikes over the next weeks. more photos at higher resolution? Have a look at: https://suzuki-gs-bikes.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/1983-GS1100E/i-PJp6c72 A word about the GS1100E bikesIf you've somehow missed the details on the E, here's a quick overview. Suzuki manufactured the 1100E from 1980-1983 with very similar mechanical attributes for all 4 years but with significant cosmetic differences between 80-81 models and 82-83 models. The 80-81 models had pretty elaborate striping and de-cal work on the tank, tail, fender and side panels, different front fork internals, different instrument clusters and headlight treatments. The 82-83 cosmetics were much simpler with just the logos and Suzuki decals embedded in the paint. The engine was a transverse 4 cylinder 16-valve layout with around 100 hp, which was tuned to deliver most of it's power and torque by 7000 rpm with plenty on tap at even 4000 or under rpms. That's what made the E's so much fun to ride--the gear almost didn't matter. The bottom end was a roller crank affair meaning the crank and the 'full-circle' connecting rods were pressed together and balanced as an assembly. The cranks were welded by drag racing builders and in '83 Suzuki decided to do the same at the factory as was done with this auction bike. The GS1100E was on every bike mag cover multiple times for a couple years usually winning the shoot outs with.the Japanese competition and universally praised for all around goodness--crazy-fun performance, decent braking, above average handling, excellent reliability, Sooooooo... We are selling off a few very nice GS bikes this spring (see our 1100G auction if you prefer a shaft drive) including this gorgeous Lets call this one well-sorted out, thoroughally dialed in E. It has been my personal ride for the past few years, We pride ourselves on delivering bikes that are fully serviced, will fire up nearly instantly in any weather, and are ready to take off from our shop on a cross country ride when you pick the bike up. This E retains a lot of it's original parts but has many subtle upgrades for performance, reliability and safety: --Stainless steel brake lines, fresh sintered pads --Shorai Lithium battery --Just-fitted Pirelli Street Demons (note mold hair on tires still visible in photos) --New charging system: stator, rectifier-regulator, new connectors --K&N unit filter in the stock air box (jetted for box top off) --Cams degreed, carbs tuned for improved mid-range --Progressive suspension (front & rear) --ATK Fork brace, powder-coated black --Parcel rack powder-coated to match engine and frame A few additional details on this E --2-owner, 11.9k mi-from-new --Bike comes with original dealership delivery paperwork, receipt, owner's manual, 2 original factory plastic keys. --carbs tweaked to improve cold starting, needle heights adjusted for improved mid-range --functioning anti-dive system with custom stainless links to match brake lines. --brake cylinders and calipers rebuilt and re-finished in epoxy paint for a likenew look --Clutch was removed to re-torque the flange nut. while out it was disassembled, steel plates bead blasted, fibre plates checked. --well preserved OE paint on tank and body works --un-cracked original seat with un-blemished cover. --I run a blend of medium octane pump gas conditioned with Carb Medic RX and SeaFoam Stabl during the season. --Bike has been winter-stored dry in climate conditioned shop --plastic frame covers are uncracked originals, tabs have been re-enforced with epoxy as they were pretty fragile on the 82-83 models. Blems: --there is a bb sized ping in the tank and some light scratching here and there on the body plastic --tank is an untouched original with spotless interior--looks like stainless steel --black chrome exhaust is nice original showing some fine pitting but no dings or road rash. A word about the E market and ASW prices: We have sent bikes and parts to Europe, Japan and all over North America. It's getting harder every year to find even good starting points for E projects. Trust me, any 35 yr old bike is going to be a project for somebody. Most bikes we see advertised as 'ready to ride' usually aren't ready to ride very far, very fast, or ride every day. We strive to address all the little things that leave vintage riders stranded at the side of the road. We have restored or done major updates on over 120 GS bikes over the last few years. We have learned what needs tweaked to make these amazing rides more reliable, fun and durable. The ask price on this bike is about what we see asked for a nice, original, low-miles E--without the $3K or so of shop time and parts this bike has in it. If you can do your own GS work we respect that but if you'd like one that has many decades of GS experience bundled into it, we'd love to see you on one of our machines. We still do complete restorations on our own and client bikes as this example from a couple years back that was featured as the GS Resources bike of the month: http://thegsresources.com/botm.php?year=2010&month=8 In fact, if someone out there prefers the 80-81 E's we have a black/red striped body set and a NOS exhaust system waiting for the right bike to come along? About the Seller: Although I am not a dealer, I do make a living as “Akron Suzuki Works”.We repair, restore and sell vintage Suzuki’s. This bike is just coming out of climate controlled storage. For the Lawyers:As everybody knows by now, you are buying a used vehicle here which is sold as-is where-is with no guarantees that it will always do what you, I or anybody else expects it to do. I do guarantee that it has been described accurately and will cancel a sale if you come to pick up the bike and it does not meet your expectations.
