Vehicle Detail

PLEASE............read description, look over every picture and ask as many questions as you want, and if you want pictures of certain areas, say the word and I will see what I can do. If at all possible, inspect the vehicle personally or have it inspected for you. Car is red and not orange, just looks that way in the pics. I'm a long time car fanatic and give a 100% effort to describe everything (good and bad) but your opinion and mine may not be exactly the same. I stink on computer stuff so please forgive me if every word is not perfect :) Excellent entry level / driver quality / hard to find year of muscle car for the money! 1968 442 sports coupe. 400 auto, turbo 400 transmission, 12 bolt posi with factory heavy duty sway bars. 344 VIN, so it is NOT a clone. Matching numbers except for paint color. Very nice and mostly original black bucket seat interior. Was factory Willow Gold car, painted red many years ago in what I would guess was acrylic enamel. Previous rust repairs are showing in rear quarters and a small area on the drivers front fender. My plan was (and may still do if it does not sell) to drive the car for a few summers just like it is and then eventually do a full blown resto in the correct color. Car is a typical 20 footer, looks great going down the road. Not a rust bucket by any means but sure not a show piece either, maybe "presentable" describes it best. Lots of stuff out there not as nice for much higher asking prices that are not genuine 442 cars. Floors and frame are solid. All of the hard to find post car trim is intact and in decent shape. Glass is all good and all windows roll up and down just fine. Last 6 digits of VIN are stamped on the engine block, transmission has matching numbers as well. I was told that motor was rebuilt but have no receipts, however, motor is very clean, has no leaks and runs / starts great, so I am fairly certain that this claim is true. I just restored the wheels (sandblasted, new correct color paint, new centers) and the tires have less than 100 miles on them. New rear springs and shocks, new carpet. Drives out good, but does have the typical Quadrajet "stumble" if you really try to hammer the accelerator. Only non-functioning item is the wiper motor. The heater core is making a few gurgling sounds at start up, so sooner or later it may need replaced. Winning bidder pays shipping, inspections, etc. Clean and clear Indiana title in my name. NO warrantees, no promises. Also, please remember that you are in a legal binding contract when you bid on / win this auction, and the sale price is FINAL. Advertised locally so this auction can and may end at any time. Car will NOT be released until funds have cleared. Sorry to be such a pain-in-the-rear, but a few past experiences selling / buying stuff has left me no choice but to cover all of the bases. I will be happy to store vehicle for up to 2 weeks at no charge. $500.00 deposit due within 48 hours of auction ending time. Full payment due within 7 days of auctions end, whether vehicle has been delivered or not. THANKS for looking! On Apr-22-16 at 09:19:14 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer a few of the most asked questions: * I have no clue or idea what shade of red this is, other than a very bright one. It is an older paint job and I would guess it was painted in an era when acrylic enamel was the best choice. In it's day, the paint and body work would have been considered a decent job, but is not show quality by today's standards. It is not "chicken tracking", which leads me to believe it was not lacquer. Yes, someone that knew there stuff could very well weld in 1/2 quarters and be able to match paint color, texture, etc. If I would end up going that far, I would go back to factory color and have everything 100% correct. That is the next owners choice. As stated, it's a 20 footer, looks like a high dollar restoration going down the road or from 15-20 feet away.*This is not a factory side stripe car. Stripe is just a tape kit and can be removed if the next owner choses to do so.*I have not put a ton of miles on it, but it drives / rides fine. I can not honestly say that I would jump in it tomorrow and head for California without a few smaller distance / test trips, but everything does seem to function fine.*Rare is due to only 4,282 442 sports coupes being produced in 1968.*I am selling to pursue one already at the next level so to speak (68-72 442 Cutlass, etc) *Yes, you could take to small local shows, You will probably not win any trophies but just showing up with a cool musclecar is fun.*I only have an original owners manual and a small interior tag that was found under the carpet as far as factory paperwork. *There is no spare tire or jack at this time.*Would like to sell, but do not HAVE to, so no lowball offers will be accepted! Hard to find a real 442, let alone a rare year and body style with factory drivetrain still intact!*As stated, title is clear and in my name.*Radio is aftermarket with 6x9 speakers in the package try, it is a fairly good unit.*Aftermarket gages under dashboard, holds great oil pressure, etc*Previous owner claims to have factory radio and exhaust manifolds, but neither have surfaced and that was 6 to 8 months ago. I will make sure the next owner receives them if they turn up, but no promises. *Please message me with any other questions, photo requests, etc.*Again, it is on several websites online and advertised local with several supposedly interested parties. Any sale there will end this auction immediately.
